Re: best PAYG sim card?

Seriously, I would consider getting a contract phone with Vodaphone from the UK.

I live here permanently, I have a deal which gives me a free data pack 30G. All my calls to the UK or Eurozone are included free (mobile or landline), and just about everyone here, including shops, bars, hotels & restaurant etc use whatsapp - which is completely free using my data package.

I also have a PAYG with Vodaphone Turkey (28tl gives me no data but calls for 6 months - but I've hardly every used it).

Is that 28TL per month on an open-ended contract, and is it any hassle to close the phone for about 6 months?
Do you pay the 28pm on a DDM?
I've used Turkcell for years but it's getting very expensive for PAYG for just a few months at a time. I only use the Turkish phone for calls and texts.

Hi Kanga, got to be honest - I get quite bemused by Turkish cell phone providers... they seem to think that everyone wants data, so if you buy a month with data, at the end of that month you need to pay again for another month even if you have data or mins left.

I go and explain that I do not want data (I have so much on my UK vodaphone), and they sell me a pack of mins and text that remains available for 6 months (or until I use it all - which I never have, as like you I only use it calls & text). No DD, just cash at the office every 6 months

Sorry Enoch, but I don't really understand your question... it is not possible to interchange between vodaphone contracts charged in two different countries. You have to have 2 phones.

As previously explained - I have two phones. Both with Vodaphone - one is on UK contract and one is Turkish. Technically, the UK one has to be back in the UK every 4 months, but in reality if you go anywhere near another border (and many of us are) then it simply resets itself and we get a text 'welcome to Turkey' telling us that everything is included in our UK contract payments every few weeks...

Vodaphone were going to close this loophole last year, but so many vodaphone contract users, who use their service in Turkey made so many complaints - Vodaphone changed their plans - and probably kept a few million customers in doing so.
