Question Renting an apartment

Ola folks!

Hope things are well in your part of the globe.

Well, looks like our number's finally up for the Turkey leap!

I appreciate all the help I've received here from everyone over the past year or so, relative to our move.

My current concern is renting. We are expecting to apply for our 1st time RP around October. And while we hunt for apartments, we will be staying at hotels or Airbnb-ing.

Can we rent an apartment before our interview date/prior to our application's approval?

If there is more knowledge to share regarding renting, please fire away.

Much appreciated.

Re: Renting an apartment

I've read Andy's post on "Moving Delimmas" & I realize that a Kimlik number is mandatory for all utility connections, so signing a rental lease will have similar requirements.

My updated question is; what do new movers do to settle themselves while waiting for an interview date?

In the Istanbul area for example, the wait times for an interview appointment can stretch to 2 months or so.....

I was hoping we could at least start furnishing an apartment while we wait for the interbiew.

Appreciate the feedback.

Re: Renting an apartment

Adding to the questions above;

What would be a suitable way to hunt for an apartment to rent in Beylikduzu (or vicinity)?

That's where our son will be attending school.

I know of Sahibinden & LetGo as real estate rental resources.

Sorry about the lack of response, but I think many members are owners.

@IbrahimAbi to the rescue! Thank you!

Yep...that makes sense....but surely no one was an owner as soon as they moved to Turkey. There must have been a rental "transition" to owner.

And that transition is what I am seeking some advice for.

We are certainly aiming for ownership too. But, down the road after we've done our research & found something suitable & within our budget.

Truth be told, I am a little apprehensive of owning as soon as we move, considering the many con schemes out there. Plus the language barrier does not make it easy.

Hope that makes sense.

Re: Renting an apartment

I have never rented in Turkey.
I cannot see how you cannot rent before your interview as long as you are still within your 90 day in 180 day allowance.
As Martin has suggested check DocMartin files. Very reliable and kept up to date.

ok, thank you. Just wanted to make sure a rental agreement does not require a kimlik number.

And yes, I'm checking out Doc. Martin's files. I don't know how could I have forgotten about them

Appreciate the reminder! @alva5763 @yalimart

It's been more than a year since our last Turkey visit...

Re: Renting an apartment

We all advise to rent before you buy, so you are bang on the money there. I had lived here for many years in rented accommodation that my company arranged, so we never had the hassles (or rent to pay).
