Capital reduction
Here is a spreadsheet that I have written for my own use to see how long capital will last.
Change the figures in the top boxes i.e. capital,Interest rate or amount withdrawn each week and it will change the figures in the spreadsheet.
Hopefully this spreadsheet will upload - first time I've tried

Re: Capital reduction
My husband also wrote a spreadsheet for us with Excel. So I know the effort and time involved in producing something like this. Ours is a bit more extensive since we have added on bits and pieces over the past two years. Although it's a lot of work at the start, it certainly makes you feel more comfortable knowing how long the cash is going to last.
Jcrian, I think it was a great idea to put it on the forum.

Re: Capital reduction
Nice spreadsheet - I couldn't do it !
Sorry to be the dark cloud ( again ) but I would caution people to only regard this as a guide.
Be sure to include the effects of taxation on your deposit and interest earned, which reduces the figure, and allow for inflation when estimating your interest rate.
How you do this on a spread sheet someone smarter than me will have to answer.
