Re: Exchange Rates
they always say no comission at the Post Office but it never says no profit. The spreads between buy and sell are always big. You would do much better to change it in Turkey.

Re: Exchange Rates
Just looked. Yes, at Post Office 2.2785, but they do say you will receive 2.28 - big deal! Just looked at Akbank, they say they are buying GBP at 2.43250YTL for 1GBP. However, they also say they are selling GBP for 2.38360 for GBP1. A month ago we got 2.563YTL from Akbank. So not looking too good at the moment. Maisie

Re: Exchange Rates
What a joke the exchange rates are at the minute!
I nipped to Thomas Cook on Saturday, only wanted £100 of lira to get me started and they offered 2.09!!!!!!!!
They said even if I changed £500 I would only get 2.23 to the £
Im waiting till I get there on Saturday

Re: Exchange Rates
BBC is stating 2.44 YTL to the pound and 1.93 YTL to the euro with tourist rates of 2.3 YTL = £1 and 1.82 YTL = 1 euro

Re: Exchange Rates
And get yourself a Nationwide card and draw money out as you require it. No carrying lots of cash and no charges for drawing at the atms overseas. I have also found the exchange rate to be quite good although you don't know what it is til you get back.

Thanks Martyn I know that. Thankfully I have Turkish account with enough in for now. Son has come back from working in France with more Euros in cash than he needs. It's a real pain as he will loose out by changing them back to sterling. So I may as well buy some off him at a favourable rate for him and me and then change them up in Turkey - hence the need to know the euro rate so I can work out if it's worthwhile.
Thanks also English boy. I was just wondering what folks are actually getting in Turkey - it's usually a bit more than we can get in the UK.
