Re: Watch The Lira Now

Well, I must say, we have actually decided to change some Sterling to lira and put it in a deposit account today, and can't believe we got 20 % for such a small amount. If we leave it there for long enough the interest will pay for the car.. Maybe a short lived incentive ?? xx

EX TCB GOVERNOR SAVAGES FINANCE MINSTER

Following a speech by the "son in law" Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak to parliament.

The former TC Bank Governor Durmus Yilmaz asked Finance Minister Albayrak whether he really believed his own rhetoric, pointing to Albayrak's failure to take responsibility for recent financial turmoil and enact serious reforms.

Yilmaz said the government’s assertion that Turkey’s economic problems were the fault of external forces had no bearing on reality,Yilmaz, said 'What you say is not closely related to the reality. If you believe what you say to yourself, then we are in a much worse situation. Some of your statements show that you have never understood the seriousness of the situation according to Sozcu newspaper.

Yilmaz said you play with the fire by trying to reduce interest rates and playing with treasury auctions. This method was tried in 1994, resulting in a crisis.

Yilmaz said "I wish with all my heart, I hope I'm wrong but I'm sure that after the up and coming local elections, the following will apply Turks will feel austerity unprecedented in the history of Turkey.

And you will try to pay the cost of this crisis inflicted on millions of citizens who have no responsibility in the making of this crisis. I am almost certain that you will do this by signing Turkey's 20th Stand-by agreement with the IMF.
