Re: Watch The Lira Now

You will get about 7.2 to the pound now. In a bank about 6.9 at the exchange

Re: Watch The Lira Now

A good article explaining why RTE would risk punitive US sanctions which could include "the privileges of integration with the Western alliance, infrastructure investments, bond underwriting, debt-service guarantees and much else. Turkish banks could ultimately face exclusion from the Swift system. Not the whole package at first but the very threat of increasing pressure would deflate the economy and devalue the currency sharply." So why the insistence to buy the Russian S-400 missile system ??? good explanation.... here

Does anyone take him seriously any more??

"The government’s institutions are no longer able to hide figures showing the widespread expectation that the economy will continue to deteriorate over the next 12 months, unemployment will rise, purchasing power will fall and saving will be out of the question.

Albayrak’s frequent declarations that the economy had overcome the worst of its problems have proven false, his seven economic packages in 10 months have failed to convince investors and the public, and trust has fallen across all sectors. Expectations across the board are for the worst."

Re: Watch The Lira Now

The educational system in Turkey does no encourage students to question at all. Often the written or spoken word is taken as fact.

Turkey Holds Rates Again as Lira Wobbles Before Election Do-Over
Economic Indicators..Jun 12, 2019

(Bloomberg) -- Turkey’s central bank extended its interest-rate pause to nine months as it waits for a more stable lira before a controversial rerun of Istanbul elections.

The Monetary Policy Committee kept its benchmark at 24% on Wednesday, in line with the forecasts of all but three of the 25 economists surveyed by Bloomberg. The rest predicted a cut. The MPC has stood pat since an increase of 625 basis points in September.

Turkey's Rating Cut Deeper Into Junk by Moody's on Default Risk June 14, 2019,

Turkey’s credit score slid deeper into junk as Moody’s Investors Service cut its assessment, citing an increasing risk of a balance of payments crisis and a government default.

Turkey’s long-term issuer rating was lowered to B1 from Ba3 by Moody’s, the rating company said in a statement on Friday. The outlook on the rating is negative. Turkey is now four notches below investment grade, on par with Jordan, Greece, and Uzbekistan.
