Question Recommendations for joint account

Hi there

We've had a joint account with Garanti for 11 years. Our bank cards expired last month and we weren't here when they tried to deliver the new ones. That just created huge problems. After 2 weeks of trying I now finally have a new card, but my wife does not. Garanti apparently no longer issue 2 cards for joint accounts, and my wife is now told by Alo Garanti that she does not exist shown she tried to call them. All completely unacceptable and surprising really.

Long story short - we need to find a Turkish bank that will offer "proper" joint accounts where both parties have full access to the account on an equal basis. We also need one which has good English language support on apps and website etc. Garanti were pretty good on this front and my Turkish is rubbish.

Anyone have any recommendations please?

Re: Recommendations for joint account

HSBC for Myself with a very good friend who has instructions with what to do should I die before him, plus at least one other friend & his wife have joint accounts. But whatever happens if/when either of you pops their clogs (Dies) under NO circumstances tell the bank, the remaining account holder should just go to the bank and withdraw everything don't even bother to close the account, maybe just leave a couple of Lira to cover any immediate DD, because if you tell the bank they are duty bound to INSTANTLY freeze the account leaving the survivor with nothing until they have been through the courts legal system to get the account unfroze.

Also are you aware that POA (Power Of Attorney) ceased to exist on the persons death so again if needs be tell 'no-one' and sell whatever needs selling.

All of the above information applies to all banking institutions and not just to the HSBC banks.

OF, do HSBC freeze an amount of money in order for you to have a credit card? I closed my account with them about 7 years ago as they froze twice as much money as the limit on the card. Seemed a bit silly to me.

Not that I am aware of. and with a 10k limit I would have needed to know plus most of my cash is in Time accounts and I just leave a couple of hundred Lira in my cash account for DDs. then if and whenever I use my CC I simply transfer enough cash to cover it.

Thanks for that. Appreciate the steer. Do you find there are plenty of HSBC ATMs around? I'd been warned about the account freezing issue. It's definitely a big worry.

Unless I missed it you need to say which area you are asking about.

Ha. Fair point. We live in Akyaka near Mugla. The HSBC website claims there is a cashpoint here but it must be very well camouflaged as I've never seen it.

In that case why not go to the Akyaka or Mugla forum and ask there I'm sure someone will let you know where one is, not forgetting maybe as with HSBC in Didim even when closed the bank outer door is always unlocked giving access to the ATM.

Re: Recommendations for joint account

Why do you have to use an HSBC ATM? There are others dispensing sterling if that's what you need.
