Re: Erdogans election

Turkey is taking it & giving it from all sides at the moment, always struck me that many Turks loved the man (rightly or wrongly)...........they love it when he stands up to the West, I cant see him going anywhere for a while yet.

Re: Erdogans election

This is an interesting development:-

Muharrem İnce, the main opposition Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) presidential candidate, has vowed that he will never use presidential powers granted by the 2017 referendum on constitutional amendments in the event that he gets elected as president.

“There are vast powers given to the president. But I will not use them. I will be afraid to,” İnce said at an event with representatives of civil society organizations in the Black Sea province of Trabzon on May 11.

I am in Side, Turkey just now and that Link says that it is not private and dangerous to use, so I quickly clicked out of it! Mind you, this website - - Turkish Living Forum - - always says NOT SECURE with a red triangle and an exclamation mark whenever I look at anything at all on here. Why is that Mustaq? x Angela x

I can say, Angela, the link I posted is blocked in Turkey, as it comes from Turkish media group critical of the Government. It opens ok abroad, or for Turks in Turkey who have circumvented the bans on critical journalism, with overseas IP's, so they can get the full picture including the opposition and Kurdish media.

Because in Turkey there is hardly any critical press media left that isn't owned or controlled by pro-government people, one of the last independent media groups I am lead to believe, the Dogan group has relented to pressure and sold their newspaper titles and media to the only buyers available another pro-government group. (the Dogan group titles includes the old secular English version of the Turkish Daily News )

In Turkey According to Turkish friends, and the opposition banned press, the public channel TRT has recently shown on average for every 37hrs MHP/AKP of election time, the combined opposition has only had 3hrs airtime.

Re: Erdogans election

Its a funny old world on TLF, matters not how any well known modern day leader gets elected, he/she are just not good enough. Great at the time but the downward spiral happens within the first six months.
Politicians do what they have to do in order to get the top job...........then do even more to hang onto it. Its the way of the world, we don't have to like it but we do have to lump it.
