Sterling deposit accounts.

Just wondering, as I almost hijacked the Watch the lira now thread. Are there sterling deposit accounts over there in Turkey, I can't remember myself. If so any recommendations please. Thanks. xx

Re: Sterling deposit accounts.

I think it depends on how much you have, how long you want to leave it, and how well you know the bank manager.
A friend of a friend here (Datca) was offered nothing for a euro deposit a/c but on going to the same bank in Marmaris was offered a decent interest rate.

Re: Sterling deposit accounts.

I am happy with the Sterling account at Garanti but only use it to bring money over and store a small amount to change for monthly shopping, I would not keep enough here to worry about interest rates.

Re: Sterling deposit accounts.

Have a sterling account with Deniz bank, getting 18% interest. Think it's about 14% after tax.

Re: Sterling deposit accounts.

Just had a look at HSBC interest rates on their websight. It says for over 32 days 1.5% but doesn't say how much you need to have deposited. Of course at end on maturity time. You would have to pay 15% tax Butt007

It was just 3 weeks ago when I asked my accounts manager (Jeffrey)
15% tax YES but only on the interest hence the reason why Ialways say I love paying tax cos it means I earnt more than I could/would have done in the UK.

But if Deniz bank, are paying 18% gross, then it might be time for another account.
