We can expect a lot of reality checks after the elections.

Re: Bank Interest Rate Offer

For all its problems economic and otherwise why even a few years after leaving does Turkey still have a hold on me!!!!!

Bank interest rates are still good certainly compared to here. Our bank manager was asking us recently if we were interested in our banks saving bond with a mouth watering 0.85% yield

It means 4%, or, in this case, a reduction of 4%. In terms of any economy, this is a huge shift.

Re: Bank Interest Rate Offer

One 'base point' or bip, means 100th of 1%. Interest rates are usually moved in 25 bips, meaning a quarter of 1%.

Re: Bank Interest Rate Offer

Right , Im going to ask this as I am totally not getting how the Banks can give you so much Interest. Ive worked out that to live comfortably in Turkey, as I own the property outright , around 6500TL a month. I actually came to the figure 5000TL but added extra just in case. Now , am i missing something here? That would mean I only needed 400,000TL roughly in a savings account?
