Garanti CCard Instalment Payments

Watching the TL about to collapse, it occurred to me that anything bought now, before the prices rise in TL, could be a bargain if on extended payments.
So, I tried to buy an item on Gittigidiyor with fixed cost spread over 6 months on interest free credit. If the TL tanks, I win.
However, I can not get the thing to work. It lets me pick the instalment & period, confirms by secure SMS message that the deal is about to happen, but then I get a note from Gittigidiyor that the transaction has failed.
Q: Anyone tried this?
Q: How much of the total cost needs to be loaded on the card i.e. do I need to set aside the total amount even though payments will be over 6 months?

I think the answer to your last question is yes. An amount equivalent to the total is "blocked" on your account to ensure future payments. For me, this offsets any advantage in making payments this way. So you will need to top up your account to cover the total cost, then try again.

Re: Garanti CCard Instalment Payments

That does not make sense, so I have just asked the bank; yes, you have to put the amount you want to borrow on interest free terms into their hands, then they pay it out over the six months. Call me stupid, but I am having a bit of trouble understanding why you would do that, or what possible benefit it could be; I can see that the bank benefits by having your money to use while it pays nothing for the privilege, but how does that do anything for me?

My clever plan starts to crumble.
