Re: we want to marry in Turkey this September

Hi Red

Congratulations to you both, I can't think of anywhere more beautiful to get married. Look up the British Embassy site on regulations for marriage in Turkey. From what I understand you do not need to reside there for 21 days if you have your certificate of no impediment. Wishing you every good luck and happiness.

dont think 21 days is correct as my daughter got married in turley a few years ago and we were only there for a week before the wedding.
Phone and ask one of the tour operators They should be able to tell you even if you are not using them

Our friends recently flew out and got married, all you need is a certificate of no impedement from the UK. Your passports and any divorce papers if either of you has been married before. Take these to the nearest British Consulate or Vice consulate where they will have translated into Turkish (this takes a few days and costs around 600 ytl). Once the documents are ready you can either go to the local registry office/belediye and book a wedding, they will then tell you where to go for blood tests or go to one of the hotels that organise weddings etc.....my friend was here for a week and managed to get married.
Any more

Red, as you can obtain your certs of non impediments quite easily from the registry office in the town where you reside you wont have a problem, you will also need FULL birth certs from the same office. Good Luck for the future.

I got married in 2003 in Turkey and the others are right, you do not need to be there for 21 days before.

1 Get Certificates of Non-impediment from your local Registrar - these are valid for 3 months.
2 Take them to the nearest British Consulate, along with your long Birth Certificates and any Decree Absolute documents if you have been previously divorced. These will be translated, can't remember the cost but we had to pay in Lira not Sterling. ( We went to Ankara who were lovely - really helpful!)
3. We had to go to the Ministry for Foreigners to get the papers authorised - as you are both British not sure whether or not you have to do this but the Consulate will tell you when you collect your translated documents.
4. Go to your local Belediye to arrange the marriage - they will give you the forms for your blood tests which you can get done at a local hospital or clinic or use one of the hotels/companies that organise this for you.

Good luck and have a lovely day!

Re: we want to marry in Turkey this September

Hi

My brother and his wife got married in Kalkan in Sept 2007.

They were only in Turkey for a week before they got married.

All legal and everything above board.

Great day and reception.

If you want more info PM me.

Re: we want to marry in Turkey this September

thank you for all for the advice I hope those who are in 'the know' won't mind my PM's next month as we have decided to put up with the palava and 'go for it'. We have moments where it seems easier to go to Gretna Green and have a small party with just the kids - but they don't REALLY don't want that.

So we will be flying over (dates to be arranged!!!!!)with our whole brood and hope for the best
