Bad News for Bodrum ?
Part of the charm of bodrum is its exclusivity, its quaint feel and famous local whitewashed buildings. Restrictions are in place to prevent the area being over developed...... until now.
The restriction on height for building has now been lifted for hotels. These can now be built upto five storey's ... with "only four" being allowed in restricted areas. Concerns are that this is a doorway to ten storey units, maximising profits for both hotel chain and developer.
The prospect of hi rise hotels has been invited in - bringing in the prospect of radical alterations to hotels and complexes in the area. I dont want to see the area ruined and over developed like some others !

Re: Bad News for Bodrum ?
I have written (following your link) my disgust at this. Let's see if we can keep this going.
Bodrum already has such a huge amount of empty and unsold property to add high rise places to this area would be such a shame.

Re: Bad News for Bodrum ?
I heard about this yesterday, and also think it will be bad for Bodrum.
I too have followed the link and sent an email against the plan

Re: Bad News for Bodrum ?
We have a couple of hotels 4 storey already and a new one being built behind the Manzara Restaurant which looks like an eye sore now but will probably look nice once finished. I hate to think that we could end up with high rise buildings becasue as you have said Mr T, part of the charm of bodrum is its exclusivity, its quaint feel and famous local whitewashed buildings, lets hope it's not spolit too much.

Re: Bad News for Bodrum ?
This ill-gotton practice, will have the image of Benidorm.Where the sunlight, that once was, has been robbed by the ever growing encroachment of concrete, spreading along the tourists areas like a cancer. And what happens eventually, the cancer kills the body, just like the tourists area that are developing in such uncontrollable way, will also go that way.To its death.
When people come to tourist areas, they come for the beauty of the place there visiting, and the entertainment, but there must be a happy medium,or the concrete gettos will only attract the booze brigade..

Time to find somewhere else we think !!

Hi Sue
Was there a local business/residents forum in Yalikaval that opposed this development?
Were you invited to any meetings to discuss the plans?
