buying property in turkey

Hi
I wondered what sort of experiences people have had buying property in Turkey. We recently bought a property through a company called Romance of Turkey, they did not really know what they were doing, luckily we have friends who helped us.
I guess the main things to make sure of is that the sellers have a TAPU (deed) and an Iskan (shows what is yours square metres etc). Beware of cowboys!
However, what I would like to know if anyone has any good experiences of agents in Alanya?

Bakir at the Orange Grove Hotel/Restuarant also has an Emlak office. He found us some very good apartments to rent prior to finding us our current home.He kept us well clear of anything that could cause problems eg Co-operatives. I would recommend him to anyone looking to buy or rent in this area of Turkey.

Re: buying property in turkey

Welcome to the Forum Tosmur. I would assume that you bought in the Tosmur area by your name. I honestly could not recommend any agent in Alanya area, they seem to offer everything to you but as soon as you have paid your deposit, you seem to be on your own!! I personally am trying to sell a very good value apartment in Tosmur area and today I told the agent to take it off their books. I want £50k for this apartment and they are pushing it at £62k - no wonder I haven't had any offers! I am totally sick of the lot of them and just wished we had a professional outfit here like Crescent Homes run my CarolK in Altinkum. When I sold my villa privately, earlier this year I used no agents, just the services of an English speaking Turkish man who did all the running around for me and cost me 750TL. I do hope you've managed to get your Tapu and Iskan. If you haven't start shouting very loudly, and make sure there are no charges on the property. Good luck with your property.

Val

Re: buying property in turkey

Unfortunately I have to agree with Val . Because of this situation i decided to take the sale of my appartments in my own hands with the help of my Turkisch wife . There are many honest and goodhearted people in Alanya but i am afraid you won't find them in this sector. When giving my appartment for sale the price that was advertised was 8000Euro more than the asking price. One day when i was on the door of my appartment a strange guy who locked himself inside left the appartment . It seemed that he got the keys from the emlak to sell the place for them. When i took a closer look i saw that some items were missing.
I hope that you have good luck with your buy. If you use common sense you will be all right and have great times in this beatifull region.
