Re: Turkey to facilitate property transfers from overseas

Does that mean any sales would be subject to the laws of the country where the transaction takes place? Could be interesting to see the number of International arrest warrants being issued for those property deals that don't go smoothly.
Interesting times ahead possibly.

Re: Turkey to facilitate property transfers from overseas

Could be good for people who done their contract here but paid into "private bank accounts in the UK".

Turkey's land registry paperwork to also be done overseas

You are living outside Turkey and considering buying a nice house or some land, or already have some real estate in the country and want to sell it, but all the travel costs plus the time you would spend dealing with the paperwork are just making your investment decision a more difficult one to make. A new practice that is going to be implemented in August is just the thing for you as it will allow foreigners to do all the land registry paperwork and follow the necessary procedures related to a real estate purchase or sale in Turkey from their home country.

An idea that was first developed to streamline the process of land registration for Turks living at home has also offered a good opportunity for everyone, including non-Turks, as it was expanded to facilitate such work for Turkish citizens and foreigners living overseas as well. From August onward, Turkey's Land Registry General Directorate will start using an online system called TAKBİS that will allow all Turks living in Turkey to complete procedures from wherever they live without having to travel to another province. The system will also make it possible for people living outside the country to do the same at Turkish embassies in their own countries. This opportunity will first start to be provided to people in countries that have large communities of Turkish expatriates such as Germany, France, the Netherlands and the UK but will later serve people anywhere in the world where there is “sufficient demand” for such a service, the organization's deputy director general, Gökhan Kanal, told the Anatolia news agency.

The directorate will dispatch land registry personnel overseas, and it will be possible to complete all relevant procedures through TAKBİS outside Turkey. “We are now at the phase of completing our infrastructure to this end,” Kanal said, adding that necessary training for the directorate's personnel is ongoing. For appointments overseas, Kanal said personnel will be chosen from among those who are already working for the directorate and that there will not be any extra recruitment for that purpose. “Knowledge of procedures, language proficiency and representative ability,” Kanal said, will be the main criteria as the organization names staff to work abroad.

A total of 543 out of all 957 land registry offices have already been incorporated into TAKBİS. Those 543 offices are responsible for around 80 percent of all land registry work across Turkey. Kanal noted that the project is almost complete and that it will take only a short while for all of the 957 offices to start using the online system."

Given the "shortcomings" of the systems up to now- TLF members will have to report in how the new on-line system works...
