Re: POWER OF ATTORNEY from the UK

Is it possible to extend a POA?

My son gave me POA for his property here to be able to sell it on his behalf any time he wanted to do so. I checked it today and it's got an end date on it which we weren't aware of at the time. It's still active and within the period set in the original document. Would he have to make another new one or can it just be updated to one with no end date?

Re: POWER OF ATTORNEY from the UK

Hopefully people will find this useful, there is a law firm who has free to download Power of Attorney document all you have to do is adapt it to suit your requirements as the existing one gives POA for everything you also need to add your details name address etc of the person who owns the property (Vekil) and the person they are giving POA to (Vekil Eden).

It is available as a word doc and a PDF version.

If you don't understand Turkish you may need someone to read it or translate it for you.

Does he know anything about your plans Lucy?

PS: hope my 'joke post' wasn't inappropriate to your circumstances Lucy?

You probably need to take legal advice on this as it isn't straightforward. I take it that you want the POA in your name, so you can sell your husband's share?

We have had 'normal' POA's from client's done through a firm of Lawyers in London and I have always found them very efficient, producing them in English and Turkish and arranging the Apostille. We have no business connection with them. (I know the advice on here is never give your agent and POA and I would normally concur, however we have had them on occasion from people who trust us and we have never let them down).

It may be worth contacting them for advice. The company is called Imison & Co

Re: POWER OF ATTORNEY from the UK

I have searched thru the POA threads and came up with this older one.

I have a similar situation and looking to appoint a POA however my husband is based in China and therefore cannot readily go to London / UK to do this

Can anyone advise is he went to an english speaking lawyer or English company in China to draw up a document it would be legal and binding for the POA purpose?

Thanks in advance

Re: POWER OF ATTORNEY from the UK

Can see no reason why your husband cannot use a Chinese lawyer . Obviously it will need postulating by the Chinese Government to confirm that the lawyer is authorised to draw it up and this may need copies in English and Chinese . Why not suggest to your husband that he has a conversation with the Turkish Embassy in Beijing to ascertain what the requirements are.

Re: POWER OF ATTORNEY from the UK

The Turkish consulate in London will do the power of attorney for a set fee, they understand and speak English and write the document in Turkish and stamp it so it is accepted in Turkey.
