I liked Altinkum even though we lived in Akbuk. Lets face it Ted, Altinkum has everything there.

Re: Did anyone get a surveyors report when buying in turkey?

I just looked at the beginning of this thread from years ago and was reminded of some of my experiences.
(A) In England when I was buying a house I noticed a beam that had been installed in the attic. The survey said that it had been installed to counteract some twisting movement in the roof. I looked at the geometry of the situation and noticed that it was held in place by nails and that it could not possibly be exerting any force on the roof beams. I removed the nails.. did the plank now relieved of the tension that my surveyor claimed that it was under then whip across the roof space? No, I just gently lifted it down and disposed of it. Well done surveyor!
(B) I bought another house in England and noticed that there was a little subsidence in one part. So I commissioned a surveyor to report on it. His report said no more than I had told him but he covered himself with the suggestion that I pay for another specialist to break up the floor and investigate further.
(C) In Turkey over the years I have bought and sold several houses. I never had a survey. And my buyers never had a survey either. The structure is nearly always the same: A concrete frame in-filled with bricks that are not load bearing and then covered in cement. They are all likely to suffer from damp. We just repair the damp areas every so often, labour is cheap.
