Transferring Utilities to New Owners name

We have been messed around by our agent in Turkey therefore we would like to do things by ourselves with the help of this forum.

Can you please tell me exact steps and offices where Electricity, Gas and water supplies is changed onto new owners name.

Apartment is located very close to Ankara, Mamak Municipality.

The agent is asking for 3 thousand liras to change things over but I think it should cost much less because its simply change of name from former owner to new owner.

Thanks.

Re: Transferring Utilities to New Owners name

I would agree. We recently did this. No charge to change council tax. 20tl to change water at the Asat office. The only one we had a problem with was the electric (ours is akdeniz) who asked us to pay a deposit of 350tl upfront as we had not had electric with them in our sole name before. Obviously we get that back if we cease the agreement.

Re: Transferring Utilities to New Owners name

It can be a bit of a run around but apart from the elec deposit (returnable) it costs very little.
Just to make you aware if whoever should have been paying the bills hasnt you may find some unpaid bills.

Re: Transferring Utilities to New Owners name

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think in Turkey they expect the new owner to settle any outstanding bills, they will not chase the old account holder. So, fingers crossed.

Re: Transferring Utilities to New Owners name

You do not have to pay for their outstanding bills, be aware of what you are signing, but they will try to get you to do this. If its your first time registering for utilities there is a refundable/transferable deposit of about 300-400TL.

Not as such but once the Tapu is in your name then outstandings Bills would become a debt against the property which you are then liable for.
Unless the law has changed.
