Why Me!!!!
Well some of you may have read the threads about renting legalities. And the fact that I thought I had done everything correctly with regards to renting out my property.
I am still being told I have done everything correctly so why oh why this....................................
This morning, I received a very tearful message on my mobile from my guest at the apartment to ring me.
I rang back, to hear in the background raised Turkish Male voices, and my guest very upset.
Apparently the "Bas****kan" on our complex and his "assistant" had gone to my guests and told them they should not be there, I was not allowed to rent out!!!! They then proceded to scream and shout, the Baskan then called the Jandarma, who also turned up.
Within minutes I have contacted my property manager, who is on her way to sort this problem out, and has also spoken to a solicitor while on her way.
I have now employed this solicitor, to sort this out once and for all.
My guests have chosen to stay at the apartment, I did offer to pay for them to go to a hotel, but they had assured me as long as they are not bothered by "Baskan" again, they are willing to stay. They also realise this is not my fault.
But I still feel totally devastated, that someones holiday should be spoilt by this.
If anyone of you out there, have any advise, any contacts or can think of anything that I should have done, then please HELP ME! I am at my wits end. Its very likely there will be a "For Sale" sign outside my property within the next few weeks if this carries on.
You will be able to read the full story of what I had to do, to rent legally, and I think its still correct, so I will just have to see what happens next.
So "watch this space................................!!!!!!!!"

Re: Why Me!!!!
I am sorry to hear about your dilema. Seems like an overkeen "Baskan" Somewhere on this forum is a subject to do with exactly your problem. I cannot remember where I had read it as it may apply to me. Basically if you are going to rent your apartment you have to treat it like a hotel, even for friends. In that you have to register with the town hall and local police. You have to provide doumentation and photos to them. You are alos supposed to keep a register and visitors card when people stay. This way at anytime the police can come and see who is staying in their area. I will try and locate it or someone may give you more upto date advice.

Re: Why Me!!!!
Andy,
Your quite correct, it was me who did everything that I was told to do, but for some reason the Baskan does not think its enough.
At the moment I am sat infront of my pc trying to get contact numbers etc but still cant speak to my solicitor as she is in Court all day, everyone in Turkey and the Embassys are on lunch at the moment.
My property manager seems to have lost interest in this, yesterday she was willing to help, and I am sure she still will, but she is busy. I am not the only person she has on her property management books, so she has to look after us all.
Still looking for help and any advise.
I dont want to sell my apartment, I love the apartment but dont want all this hassle. I have managed to speak to several other owners, but need to find more of them, that feel the same way. The ones I have spoken to are willing to share the legal costs, as this effects them too.

Re: Why Me!!!!
I would not give in Jo, it sounds like one person flexing his muscles . As you say you have your solicitor and property manager on the job. Solicitors are always busy or out to lunch no different to Spain. You can do no more than get the other owners together and deal with this person. If you are not dependant on the rental from your apartment let due process take its course. Then return to the market once it is all sorted. But don't sell up just because of one person playing "God" and loose the holiday home you love.

Re: Why Me!!!!
An update on todays events.
I have spoken to the guests who are staying at my apartment, they love it there, and as long as they are left alone, they are quite happy to stay.
Apparently he even roped the pool off, so my guests could not use it. And I have been told that another Turkish owner, went over and ripped it down, so they could use the pool.
So it would appear he is not putting himself in good light to the other owners.
I have eventually got hold of the solicitor, who confirms I have not done anything wrong. The only way he can stop someone renting short term is have a Court Order made out, and of course this would have to apply to all the properties, not just mine.
Also the solicitor says she is going to write/email me back today, still not heard anything yet. And is also going to write a letter to the Baskan.
I have the feeling, I may be opening a can of worms, and its going to get his back up even more. But I cannot take this lying down.
I have also been informed, that somehow, quite strangely the electric to my apartment had been turned off from outside. Which is rather odd!! Its never happened before. But one of my neighbours went and turned it back on, as they have a sneaky suspision it did not happen by accident, as this has never ever happened before.
We have an annual meeting in August, where the Baskan and complex rules are up for discussion, by hook or by crook I have to be there for this, as I have a feeling he is going to try and bring in a rule that there are no short term rentals.
There may be others that feel the same, buy I know for a fact there are many others that dont want this to happen and hopefully will be able to vote at the meeting, or get someone to vote by proxy.
I dont think this is the end of this, so will keep you all updated. Still if anyone can suggest anything I have not thought of, or is even in Turkey that is willing to help, I would appreciate it. But also understand, its my battle not someone elses.
Jo
