The Turkish Taxman Cometh...
The Turkish tax inspectors have now landed in Kalkan!
One of our forum members in Kalkan has just been visited by the tax inspectors while she was out. She has some house guests and they were asked to sign documents stating that they were occupying the property and had to show ID to prove their identity. The taxmen also took down the water and electricity meter numbers and have requested that the owners attend their temporary offices (in the belediye) to prove they are both the owners and that they reside there full time.
The taxmen also stated that they will be visiting villas randomly during the evening/night to ensure those who say they live there do...
If they've set up temporary offices in Kalkan Belediye, I think it's fairly safe to assume that they have/will be doing the same elsewhere along the coast. Seems to me they are making a serious effort this year...

Re: The Turkish Taxman Cometh...
Not on ours Ian, we have very few members who rent properties, maybe a handful at most. You must mean one of the 10,000 other Turkish forums...
But you are right, if someone HAS been doing things legally then no problem. However, if they haven't been doing it legally (legally by Turkish definition) then it would appear that they could be in for some bother.
I know the tax inspectors have done this before, the difference this time is that they really do seem to be taking the whole matter a lot more seriously than previous times.

Re: The Turkish Taxman Cometh...
crikey? with the pittances we have had for so called rent this year if I had to pay the tax man as well i would be well out of pocket. What if you pay the tax in the UK. What income is the Turkish taxman trying to tax?

My own experience , some years ago, with UK IR, when they thought I had not been straight about declaring income on a business, they thought of a number and made me prove I had not earned that much - it was not for them to prove what I had earned. Nice tactic!
I expect tax men the world over use the same method. If you are going to pay tax in UK on property here in Turkey, you are going to run into the same thing.

Re: The Turkish Taxman Cometh...
if your going to declare the income in turkey, you will get the tax paid taken into account when completing your tax return in the uk. your tax will be on the rental income less any expenses which include:
agent’s fees
legal fees
accountant’s fees
buildings and contents insurance
interest on property loans
maintenance and repairs (but not improvements)
utility bills (like gas, water, electricity)
rent, ground rent, service charges
Council Tax
services you pay for, like cleaning or gardening
other direct costs of letting the property, like phone calls, stationery, advertising

Re: The Turkish Taxman Cometh...
we did not buy the property to make a profit out of rental and already do the things above for UK taxman and obviously show a massive loss and will continue to do so. I have a UK property out on permanent rent which produces a loss so these all go on my tax return The only pity is that I cannot claim these losses back against PAYE. Just was worried what the Turkey taxman could ask for after reading above posts

It does not matter where you are, The Taxman will Cometh !
On a very much Brighter Note, I received a Cheque last week from A Mr A Blair for 1026 GBP's I have only been waitng two years. On Par I suppose.
