Re: villa break in
How dreadful...and frustrating when you have done the best you can with your security. My sympathies. I have been robbed twice here in Alanya, once in Istanbut - that was the car but actually got away with more than the home raids ( some old posts somewhere as to what happened) and once back in UK. In Uk I had full system alarms but forgot the garage...oh well live and learn. But very upsetting expensive and frustrating learning curve.
At the moment we are looking at security systems - on line there are some good deals, Turkey is not as expensive as it use to be - hubby has found a site for 8 cameras to record to home computer - if anyone interested I can ask him for site..can not remember its name and I am on different computer at moment....

Re: villa break in
Aplolgies for repeating myself - again. Treat security in your Turkish home just as you would in your UK home. Be especially aware when you first arrive for a holiday, they know thats when we have holiday cash, cameras, laptops etc. Lock the doors etc if you are lounging by the pool for a couple of hours. Change the locks when you first take possision of your villa/apartment.

Re: villa break in
Really sorry to hear, Martins, its a story most of us has either had happened to them, or know of someone its happened to. Its so common that you wonder why the police haven't been able to work out who at least one of the gang members might be, specially as they know its a gang of ten or so. We are in the Calis area, and were robbed in the night while asleep (police say they use a spray to keep you asleep!) shortly after all our things arrived from the UK. They ransacked the villa, taking even the telly, so they must have had a car. We lost 1000's of pounds worth of belongings. Used screwdrivers to force open the patio doors. We then bought a safe, changed the locks, and fitted security bars to all doors and windows...but missed the fact that one window downstairs was single-glazed, so when we were away in the UK, they struck again that same night, thru the single-glazed window, and everything went again. Now we have a good alarm, cameras and full bars, and a very cheap telly... But as we also live in a quiet area we just cant be too careful. Its scary how ruthless these people are.

Re: villa break in
So sorry to here of your plight its far worse than ours. We had a camera some cash and lindas neckless gone.
Everyone blames the kurds that we spoke to but whos to know. The police were good and arrived quickly but i get the impression its ok your insured. Ever tried claiming on your insurence.
I suppose the police have very limited resources and are stretched but they need to tackle this problem. Last year they said it was a gang of six now its ten doing it.
These people will not deter us from living oneday in Turkey and the vast majority of people we have met are very honest we just have to be more aware
