The talk was " it will be busier in 2008"
The talk was... It will be busier in 2008..We came back form Hisaronu at the end of May this year and I cant say it was any busier than 2007 at that stage.. we go again in September and will have a better judge of it by then ... hope it does pick up this year as next year with airline fuel price hikes etc 2009 might be a `rocky ride` as far as visiting brits are concerned... anyone got any comments on this ? What about Bodrum, Altincum, Marmaris etc ?

It's the same every year, first we had the bird flu then it was the world cup etc.
I don't think it's quieter than usual but it hasn't seemed to pick up either.

Re: The talk was " it will be busier in 2008"
We went in May (Dalaman), both Gocek and Dalyan were as busy (i.e not very) as they were for the previous two years in May (kids half term).
From a personall point of view we had no bookings for our villa until early June, now all of a sudden we are fully booked from July through till October. If we are typical, I expect July, August and September to be just as busy as they were last year in the Dalaman area, people seemingly booking late.

Turgutreis got off to a slow start apart from the all inclusive hotels which have been busy for a while now but the last week or so it seems to be a lot busier .....

Re: The talk was " it will be busier in 2008"
Well Yalikavak is certainly alot quieter than i have ever seen it - business is almost dead - i am sure that alot of the newer and less established restaurants will be out of business before the end of season
Fortunately we have alot of regular Turkish customers for the next 2 months - not the greatest of spenders though !
The biggest problem in Yali is that most of the Brits who come regular have now purchased their own property and do not eat out every night like when they were on holiday - and i certainly cant blame them
Fingers crossed it will get a little better soon for all business folks whether it be restaurants - shop keepers - etc

Yes, I think that is the same as in Turgutreis - more people owning homes here and all-inclusive hotels ....

Re: The talk was " it will be busier in 2008"
We were out right at the start of the season (and trying hard to get back again). There wasn't a great deal of optimism amongst our longstanding friends about the season. I think it's been the same since 2005. Despite the official figures regarding tourist numbers, the amount of money actually being spent per capita is dwindling. With fuel surcharges, both this year and next, I can't see a great deal of improvement.
...hope I'm wrong,
Mark & Sue
