The beach at Calis is shingle, and yes it is breezy, but in the heat of the summer it is very welcoming. The beach along the prom front in my personal opinion is tatty and an eyesore, great for strolling along looking at the views and sunsets whilst wining and dining. As you go further along the beach away from Calis although still a shingle beach wading out in the water is made easier by the soft sandy bottom.
The local authorities are making an effort for the future of Calis by making improvements to the beach and the prom areas, a special council department has now been appointed and work has already started at the end of Calis beach and palm trees, piers and a small restaurant is currently under construction.
Calis has plenty to offer families in and out of the season. Regular public transport to...well anywhere. Olu Deniz 12-15km (shingle beach) but the blue lagoon has a few private sandy beaches. Hisaronu purpose built mountain holiday resort 10km (though a few do live there all year). Dalaman airport approx 30-45mins transfer. with a few flights during out of season. Harbour town of Fethiye 3km. get there by local transport or in tourist season water taxi, or Patara beach 52km with a stretch of sandy beach for approx 19km (all distances approx from Calis).
You post that you are coming to look with intention of purchasing, ask yourself do you want to use the property for your sole use or rentals.
Do you intend to use the property in the winter?
Answers to these questions may help you decide.
you ask if Altinkum is better than Calis and vice versa, the only person that can answer that is yourself by visiting. I am near Calis but other members near or in altinkum so we are going to be biased. I love the scenery in this area, mountainous and very green. properties on the whole appear to be much cheaper in Altinkum, a good 2 bed apartment in this the Fethiye and surrounding areas £40k+ you can find some a little less than that but need to shop around. it is a buyers market at the moment so make sure you haggle the price every little helps.(time to get slammed by the agents.),

Hi Sue,
Lorraine has covered Calais very well and not having been that way, I cannot comment, but one of the main attractions in Altinkum has to be the beaches. Miles and miles of blue flag beaches AND when Dean and I walked along the front on main beach on Tuesday, we didn't get hassled once. HIPHIPHORRAY. There is also plenty of night life in Altinkum and plenty of places to visit within easy driving, BUT...there is still a lot of building work going on in this area.
You really should spend time in both 'resorts' and make your own mind up.

ooOH Ceemac someone is on the ball!
Pennie bless her little cotton socks has an english keyboard and no spill checker. The correct spelling is Çalis, although I am not sure about the dotted i.
Apart from the main beach there are streatches of beach - sandy and shingle all the way along to Kargi. Some are only big enough for a couple of cars to park upon but you can always find a decent patch to lay your towel.

"The correct spelling is Çalis" (Madturkishcow)

Perhaps you'd like to check that one!

Yes MTC im pretty sure there is a 'squiggle' under the s too as its pronounced chalish not chalis!

Sue, I personally love the beach at Calis - yes its shingle which is a bit of a pain, but beleive me tat breeze in the Summer months is a God send! Lovely views from the beach and great places to sit along the front and watch the sunset.

Re: Whats the Beach Like in Calis

Thank you for all your help, flooding is worrying and prefer a sandy beach,
I went on a different forum and looked around and found some horror stories on Calis , it seems to have been swamp ground before being built upon.. and tells of low ground levels which cause floodings and cockroaches are everywhere , gives me the shivers so it will be Altinkum for checking but Thanks everyone.
