A bit worried

Probably premature to post in the Cancer section however I am not sure where else to put it.
Had my mammogram (I've been having them annually for a while) and Ultrasound today and in the ultrasound the doctor spotted that one of the cysts' contents had changed from liquid to solid. My gynaecologist said this was unusual and said I should have another Ultrasound sooner than in six months time (I'd left the whole check up for 18 months which I shouldn't have done) and has referred me to a breast specialist at the same (private - unfortunately won't be able to use my SGK there) hospiital which is a very good one.
My question is: has anyone of you ladies or friends of yours ever had anything like this and has it been resolved satisfactorily - ie is any change like this always dodgy or can it be benign? My gynaecologist actually said that most cases of cysts are benign but they'll probably have to do a biopsy.
So now being a coward I'm rather scared and as I live on my own am worrying about things like who will look after my dog etc etc...rather premature I know.

Re: A bit worried

I know it easy to say don't worry as you must be thinking all sorts of things, none of them good. I have also had a couple of friends who have had cysts, I've had one myself but it went away on it's own after a while. My doctor said a lot of women get them, my friends were also clear when tested. Hard as it is, try and stay positive.

Re: A bit worried

Are you on HRT ??? if so speak to your Dr about stopping it .

I used to get breast lumps several times a year and cysts would fill with fluid very painful thety had to be asperated quite often

Then I got a solid lump and they told me it could be cancer ..I was 22yrs old then .

But an operation to remove was carried out and it was just a solid cyst .. Just make sure you get it seen to asp then you can stop worrying ....Diane

I won't try to tell you not to worry, coz you will, been there, done that. Could you not possibly ask for a biopsy yourself, sooner than they want to do one?

Re: A bit worried

I knew I would get useful and positive feedback on this forum Thanks everyone for your input.
No, I'm not on HRT and don't smoke and hardly drink. There isn't breast cancer in the family but that isn't always a guarantee of course.
I agree with Ceni about moving things forward. The ultrasound doctor suggested another ultrasound in 6 months but my gynaecologist said that was much too far ahead and this is why he referred me to the breast specialist who will no doubt recommend sooner investigation.
Yes cysts are common and I've had them for years and had mammos and ultrasounds done for several years too but this is the first time they've found something that needed further investigation. I spoke to my young neighbour and she said her aunt has 'active' breasts (like mine) and she has ultrasounds done every 6 months as a matter of routine and I will discuss this with the breast doctor on Thursday.
Of course it's hard not to worry or indulge in morbid thoughts but one must try not to and I'm quite busy here so don't have time to sit and brood.
It was a wake up call not to leave breast (and smear) checks too long and this time I left it since October 2010 as until then it had all been clear and the last one was good with no cysts whatsoever. It's best to keep on top of these things then if something appears it can be dealt with promptly. So I hope all the middle aged women on this forum do keep up with their women's health checks.

Re: A bit worried

These things do worry us girls IE, when I was in my late 20's and early 30's I used to get lumps and bumps, usually after my menapause, thankfully all were always ok, and since being 50 I have had regular Mammogram checks. I am sure everything will be ok IE, would you be able to get in quicker? ((((xxxx))))

Re: A bit worried

I agree to stop you worrying etc see the breast nurse as soon as you can. On the other hand maybe it is a good sign that they are not rushing investigations etc through as my experience in Turkey has been that they have sat on nothing & moved with incredible speed once cancer was suspected & then proven. My other advise would be google nothing!! Not always easy I know. Good luck, the odds are on your side xx

Re: A bit worried

Know exactly how you feel as going through the same thing now, doesn't help i had breast cancer in the past. My symptoms were put down to stress but now the doctors are taking things further. More bloods this week and then the referal to the hostpital will be processed (fingers crossed). There are lots of people on here that can advise and help you through this, even if you do as i do and moan a lot.

Re: A bit worried

Louise17; what wonderfully wise advice! First thing I started to do was Google myself into a panic!!! That's why I came off a bodybuilding forum - because everyone was preparing differently and I thought I should take this and that and wasn't doing it right and then I realised I should just look at my own situation and not always be comparing myself with others.
Yes, I will ask the breast doctor to see if she can speed things up. She'll hopefully have seen the mammo and be in a better position to give me more information.
Rachel, I had no idea you had breast cancer I'm so sorry and surprised also because I thought you were one of the younger members of the forum but of course these things can strike at any time in life. They are more common around the menopausal years but they can occur in younger women too.
Will see the doctor on Thursday and update further.
