no claims bonus??????

My other half scraped the front wing of the car the other night (please note not me) nobody involved just the wall at the end of our private road. We have two insurances, one I understand is the compulsory police one the other is what I understand to be the equivalent of fully comp. So does anyone know if we claimed would we loose a no claims bonus.

Re: no claims bonus??????

Unless you have a no-claim protection you will lose your bonus, but you can ask the insurance company to find out, then put a claim in if it's worth it.

You need to weigh up the cost of the repair against the extra cost of insurance in the future.

Re: no claims bonus??????

Even with no claims bonus protection you will probably see a rise in your premium when it is time to renew. The bonus only protects the percentage that they give you off and if you have a claim they increase the premium but the percentage off remains the same if it is protected

insurance say £500 with 60% no claims = £200 premium

After claim with NCB protection

Insurance increased say £600 with 60% no claims = £240 premium

Thing to remember is insurance companies never lose, they get more then they pay out, and even if they pay out they make sure you pay in the future.

I don't think many insurance companies go bust.

Re: no claims bonus??????

As jcrain rightly points out protecting no claims bonus still results in your premuim going up as the insurance company still counts it as a claim, just another scam to get more money from Joe, or in this case Joanne public. Check out how much excess you have on your policy also and then weigh it up. Might be cheaper to pay to have the car repaired yourself but that depends whether its an Aston Martin or a Reliant Robin.

Re: no claims bonus??????

Can't help with anything in Turkey but this is part of my work in the UK.
The advice you have been given is all correct, but another thing to consider before going through your insurance is that nowadays, on renewal of insurance you are usually asked regarding previous claims over at LEAST the last 5 years. I can't see it being any different in Turkey.
This means that you effectively will have a black mark against you for that time when the calculation of later premiums are made.
Personally, when looking at your excess, potential loss of no claims bonus and then the 'history' of the claim and its possible duration, I would advise you to consider paying for your own repairs on anything which is affordable and say less than £500 or equivalent (although that figure is not precise and dependent on other factors), telling the Insurers nothing.
Hope it helps.
