Re: Scooter regulations

Of course........EVERY single Turkish person, young and old, rich or poor, they have all got their license, passed both written and practical tests.

There's a few young lads I see quite regularly out and about in Fethiye and surrounding areas, happily scooting along, I know for a fact that a couple of them are 12 years old and "do" deliveries. I'm sure they are all fully licensed.....Oh and fully insured too!

1 law for some, another law for others!

Re: Scooter regulations

i was recently informed because the scooters are twist and go type you can ride up 250cc on your car license, uk or turkish i have turkish license class c and this covers me to ride a scooter up to 250cc twist and go type.

A turkish license is easy to get they just convert your uk one to turkish sounds good lol, takes 3days visits to driving school, traffic police, tax office, hospital and local transport office for documentaion, your license will need to be translated to turkish by offical translator and several passport type photos are needed, and plenty of time.

One thing we have found out a trukish driving license is accepted as id this way you wont need to carry passport or visa with you, also driving with uk license is only valid for 3-6 months depends on who you are talking to lol.

Re: Scooter regulations

You better go and talk to your local police department because unless this is a VERY new changed law you were informed incorrectly. I think before if it was 50 cc you could ride with no license but don't quote me on that. I have a very hard time believing that they changed this law as you say. 99% of the scooters out there fall under the 250cc class. There are also 600 cc scooters with twist and go so that's just another reason for me not to believe it. Actually what the heck does twist and go have to do with your ability to know the traffic laws and rules of the road. Your less likely to die because your on a "twist and go"? Please don't inform people of law changes like this unless you are 110% positive your correct, someone might believe it and end up dead.

Re: Scooter regulations

According to the police chief in Mugla, you are right biker bob. Anyone checking their UK licence will see that it does not even qualify you to ride a scooter or motorbike in the UK...it only allows you to use it as a provisional scooter licence. Turkey does not recognise UK provisional licences. The police chief says that you must have either a full UK motorbike licence or a Turkish motorbike licence and cannot drive here LEGALLY on a UK car licence. He has also pointed out that anyone driving a scooter on a UK car licence even if they have insurance for the scooter, is actually driving illegally without insurance as their insurance is not valid without a legal driving licence. I know we all know how many Turks drive here without licence or insurance but that is no defence in law when you get done!

Marlyn that statement is informing people that you are saying that as long as you have a normal drivers license then you can legally ride a scooter in Turkey. It's misinforming and the results could get someone injured or dead. When someone tells me they have "Been Informed" I can only assume it's from a legitimate source. That being said I could only assume you recieved this information and that it was indeed valid. Gossip and being informed are two different things. If "I" were to say that it was legal to ride a scooter in Turkey and all you needed was a normal license then "I" would make sure it was fact because of the true potential risks that could happen. I only assumed that you were informed by a police officer or a person with official knowledge of this law. I was not blaming you for saying the law was changed Marlyn, but didn't think "just heard it" from somebody is good enough to make it as a clear factual statement. No harm intended but please be sure of information like this in the future as other could be affected in a terrible way.
