Buying a car in Turkey I hope...
Well not this year but most likely next year, just doing the research first. (mainly from reading this forum)
So far looks like importing a vehicle is pretty hard to do, more paperwork problems than the cost saving, still not found out what the import tax/cost actually are, help please. I have a LHD vehicle in Azerbaijan, where I work, I would quite like to import it, it is ten years old and blummin reliable, would love to bring it in. Thinking about permanent import, not a 6 month transit type.
Next solution is to buy a vehicle in Turkey, from what I have read, the regs are easier now and I will not need a residents visa to do so.
Downside is the MA/B/C etc plates. I gather that they restrict who can drive the vehicle irrespective of you trying to get insurance for other drivers. So far looks like only myself and immediate family can use it (if insured) So the wife would be no problems, but would my sister be counted as immediate family, or is it only dependents (your own children) etc.
Last question for the moment, is there any down side when selling a MA plated vehcile, I would assume that the new owner, if Turkish national would get normal plates after the sale. However I have heard that MA plated cars are hard to sell, is this true?
So many questions, sorry.
Thanks again in advance for any help.
Cheers Mike.

Re: Buying a car in Turkey I hope...
We just sold our ME plated car to a Turkish friend - no problems encountered apart from the fact that we had rnewed the tax at the bank, so when he went to the tax office to ensure there was no debt on the car he had to pay the tax again!!! Something to do with banks sending it direct to Mugla and it taking time to get back to the local tax office!!!!

As I recall your not allowed to import a vehicle that is older then 5 years or something close to that.

Very well could be, probably is actually. I just knew it had to be a fairly new vehicle.

Re: Buying a car in Turkey I hope...
Thanks all.
Importing is definately out, I will be over next week so will shop around testing the market for car prices.
Might consider going for a new car as we are going to be in Turkey for the long haul.
regards
Mike

New is the only way to go,they are a little more expensive than UK but they don't lose 30% as you drive out the dealers door.
