HGS Toll?

Hi All

Anyone know how the new HGS toll road thing works? got one last trip but do not see anything at the gate that tells you what credit you have left only what the was cost for the bit you have driven, So my question is how do you know what is remaining or are we supposed to remember what the balance was? also how do you top it up with what I know it is at a TTP but have nothing to produce I stuck what I was given to the windscreen, it was 50TL told me it was 5tl for sticker and 45 credit "maybe". So any help would be welcome.

Re: HGS Toll?

It looks from here HGS CSC

That you can top up at a ptt might get more from this site if you google translate it am on my ipad at the moment so can't see if it will help
though.

There is an option to put your number plate in or username so maybe you can check and credit online?

Re: HGS Toll?

I noticed on the Garanti Bank web site that you can top up on-line there.

Smile Re: HGS Toll?

I am not so worried about topping up as will go to PTT, and they also have them at the barriers as well, Post office at the motorway lol My main query is how do you check what credit you have left, as all it tell's you is the cost of that journey, and below AZ,

Just got one of these recently, wasn't given anything for the windscreen, just the card itself?

HGS fiasco - no stickers - alarms - penalties

I was going to drive from Izmir to Çeşme on the otoyol so I went to my village PTT to buy a sticker. No dice, they've run out. So we went to a larger village, same story. In Izmir tried a large filling station on the free otoyol, but same story. No problem, I thought, I'll go to the office at the start of the pay section.
As we approached the start of the pay section there was a large electronic message board lit up proclaiming that you could purchase and refill HGS stickers at the service area 20km later. Excellent! I'll do that then. I think that you've probably guessed the rest, but just in case;
We drove into the service area and were told, "We've run out of stickers". Being rather miffed at this point, having been lured onto the motorway into an illegal position, we asked, as politely as possible, how were we to exit the otoyol without setting the alarms ringing and penalties being applied. "It's alright, you won't have to pay and you should be able to buy one within a week" (with hindsight, this was a wrong interpretation of what she said, I have to confess).

Relieved, we pressed on. As we travelled down the exit road it was with some trepidation I approached the toll gates because I rather suspected that the alarms might not have been switched off after all. I gritted my teeth and pressed on. Sure enough I was greeted with alarms wailing and an electronic sign displaying 29 TL penalty. I was really pissed off. Incompetent bunch of comics, I thought. No I didn't; what I really thought I can't print here.

A few days later my Turkish wife checked the PTT website and verified that the penalty had been registered against us, and that if we didn't pay within 7 days the penalty would be ten times that amount. She heads for Izmir to try and buy a HGS sticker and clarify the penalty.

This time she tries her bank with success; the advantage of using the bank is that when the credit drops below a certain value it is automatically topped up.

A happy (ish) ending
The bank said that as we had bought our sticker within 7 days of receiving the penalty we wouldn't have to pay it and only the cost of the journey itself would be debited. Today, my wife received a text message from HGS confirming this. Unfortunately it cost her 24 TL to travel to Izmir to sort this out.

Summary:
If you haven't got a HGS sticker you can still use the otoyol and avoid penalty by buying one within 7 days. Tough luck if they've run out, I guess!

A friend of ours bought from the PTT and she confirms what Altinkum Kev says that you get a text from HGS when your account is getting low.

@Jan1: When you buy an HGS sticker you get the sticker itself with instructions where to stick it (!) and a second label with a barcode which you can keep with your car docs.
