Bringing a car to Turkey

As from 1st October, the limit of stay for a car brought in from abroad has now been changed from 6 months to 2 years.

Re: Bringing a car to Turkey

There has been lots of confusion surrounding this news, because the Turkish papers and official gazete reported the change in different ways (for retired Turks, for Turks working abroad) however, my husband made a call to someone in officialdom and the news is yes, you can now keep a foreign car in Turkey for two years instead of six, BUT you have to be out of Turkey for 185 days previous to bringing the car in. It seems this would only work for expats applying for residency for the first time (and arriving by car) or those who decide to take a break in their residency (or for those without residency and simply want to keep a car in Turkey).

Re: Bringing a car to Turkey

This is apparently the Customs Law which has been amended. http://www.resmigazete.gov.tr/eskile...0151013-16.pdf

Re: Bringing a car to Turkey

So before anyone could bring a car in for 6 months regardless whether you lived here in Turkey or not, is that still the case or has that been changed to?

Re: Bringing a car to Turkey

It would seem to be that it is only the paragraph of the Customs Law which refers to the duration that has been amended. Maybe someone with fluent Turkish can confirm?

Re: Bringing a car to Turkey

Yirmidörtay is 24 months. But no mention of the 185 days. Maybe in some other part of the Amendment?

Let's hope so, Laneysharon! It would open lots of possibilities but seems too good to be true.
