Driving to turkey

For those driving to through Bulgaria to Turkey the highway from Sofia has now been extended to the border at Edirne.
Driving time from Sofia to the border is now 2hours (with the wind at your back) down from 3.5 hours.

that is good news Sleepy. That stretch on the non highway from Plovdiv to Harmanli was really dodgy in terms of traffic police presence .

Re: Driving to turkey

Never forget reading a post a long time back about someone driving g from Turkey through Bulgaria with wife and kids in the car ,and going down a deserted stretch of motorway saw 2 guys standing in middle of motorway wavng him down. He had a quick think and thought no way am I stopping so stepped on the gas headlights on full ,hand on horn and they jumped out the way . I often think a good move.

A lot of great progress has been made through to Bansko too Sleepy from Sofia, the new stretch of Motorway opened on 22nd Oct, so the journey has apparently taken 30 mins off the transfer time. We are going on 8th December.

Hiya Guys.

How do you deal with the toll gates if you are visiting TUrkey and do not have the automatic payment thing in your car??? Is there a way to still pay the old fashioned way with the card???
