Photocopy and plasticise your UK licence then hand this one over to them. İt looks the same and they will accept it therefore keep your original.

Just another daft idea that will be swept under the carpet when car sales, petrol and diesel revenues fade to nothing. If the driving standard that I have experienced here in Bodrum over the last nine years is anything to go by, there’ll be no dolmus’ either.

It looks the same but isn't.
What do you think would happen to you if they found out you tried to pass of a fake document/photocopy as a genuine one?
It could possibly be a crime, it could perhaps jeopardise your residency status.

I wouldn't advocate such an action - if they wanted a photocopy they would ask for one.

Re: Driving licence rule changes

They presumably only need the information on the driving licence and it would not be an attempt to mis-lead nor would it be a fake but merely allow you to keep your UK licence so you had one when you went back to the UK. Plus İ am afraid İ would not trust them to hold my licence and not loose it for any long period of time. Also can't understand why this would be considered a problem or offence as they were quite happy to accept copies of my birth certificate/passport etc when İ applied for my vatandaşlik which was just as well as İ had no intention of parting with the originals.

Of course copies are accepted in some circumstances, they are accepted as photocopies though. My educational certificates had to be originals for example.

My point is if the new regulations call for originals, and copies aren't accepted, I wouldn't laminate a copy and try to pass it off as an original.
I thought that was what you were suggesting.
From what IbrahimAbi said yesterday, there was no offer by the official to accept a copy when he didn't hand over his original. I'm sure he would have mentioned it if a copy was part of the original list of required documentation.

Re: Driving licence rule changes

Thankfully İ have a Turkish Licence and my UK licence so for me no problem but no way would i part with any original document for any length of time, either here or in the UK. İt does not make sense.

Re: Driving licence rule changes

I agree, this procedure doesn't make sense either. I think eventually it will be another regulation that will undergo reform.

Re: Driving licence rule changes

Charlotte, your idea of passing a TR driving test is a good one and congratulations on passing, however it must be a very difficult test as it has taken me quite a few years to learn how to drive like a native Fethiye driver and having now mastered it I got a lot of horns blaring at me on my trips back in the UK when driving there, cant understand why though!

Re: Driving licence rule changes

From Zaman:

TESK president: Gov?t should delay implementation of new driving license system

Extract: "TESK president: Gov’t should delay implementation of new driving license system"
"The new program is based on European Union countries such as Germany, France, Italy and Denmark, where drivers are issued a learner's permit and are monitored prior to being granted a driver's license. In such a system, the candidate is tested on their driving skills during a period of two years. If a candidate disregards traffic rules, she or he will be denied a license."
