Electric scooters

Does anyone know the regulations re driving an electric scooter here? Does one need a license, pay tax, insurance etc. I can't seem to find decent information, thanks.

Re: Electric scooters

A friend of mine has one, you don't need a license or pay tax. Personally I would be inclined to investigate the insurance angle because you could be hit with a big bill if you run into someone.

Re: Electric scooters

I think that you need a bike licence if the scooter is over a certain power but maybe someone on TLF can confirm this.

Re: Electric scooters

A number of my friends of mine have electric scooters, I'm told they are classed as bicycles, therefore No Tax, Insurance or MOT is required, however, I am not sure how you stand if you run into somebody.

Re: Electric scooters

No Tax, Insurance, Helmets required at present. However there have been rumblings of new legislation for these machines, so who knows...?

Re: Electric scooters

As it stands , the law states if over a certain KW , then you need a bike licence , need to register the bike with the police and get insurance (no road tax needed)

BUT I have one in Didim , have seen into all this and was told by a very trustworthy noter , a legit restaurant owner (who helps loads of people with their problems FOC) and the bike shop owner who sold the bike to me that all those regulations haven't filtered down to Didim yet , the police hadn't a clue when I asked
The only one which has is if you are English.....wear a crash helmet , we got stopped and told wear one or next time a fine (apparently, if a Turk has an accident there is some paperwork BUT if a Yabanci has an accident there is LOADS of paperwork, hence the helmet rule)

Re: Electric scooters

Any idea where I can find the actual law regarding kW size and needing a licence?

I ask because my parents want to buy one and my Dad no longer has a UK licence.

Re: Electric scooters

I saw 2 x children aged about 9 and 10 years old today riding an electric bike. When I asked the restaurant owner about it - he said any age can ride these bikes.
