latest Driving info

Hi Peeps, So now the happy retirement has arrived we are planning our road trip to Turkey. Looking for some 'heads-up' on a few things:-

1. We understand that the 185 day rule has now been clarified (I note the Yellali article posted on here a month or so ago, which suggested that the requirement for the driver & car to have been out of the country for 185 days is now interpreted as 185 in 365. Hope this is correct, as we returned from a month in Turkey only last week and I really don't want to wait another 6 months.

2. We understand that we need to have the full V5 along with driving licence and MOT cert with us and that we need to purchase 'green card' insurance. We are planning to buy a camper van for the trip so that we can take the dog (not happy to fly & put her in the hold), so just want to check that we don't need anything else and that we don't have to have owned the vehicle for any specific length of time before we travel.

3. We are not really sure on our route (leaving from Suffolk and going to Antalya region), but no time pressures - the joy of retirement, and we are happy to make a long-term holiday out of the experience - taking a couple of months... So if anyone has any tips or good ideas (a marked map would be fab) - they would be gratefully received.

4. Any specific requirements about taking the dog with us ?

5. Any other general tips on the countries along the way - from 'must-see' and 'must-do' to 'better to avoid at all costs' and/or 'beware' events/places/people etc

Cheers All

Leo.

Re: latest Driving info

Leo I would get clarification/confirmation on the 185 days in 365 days as in the past it was 185 (plus 1) consecutive days and not out of previous 365.
Its a lot of travel and hassle to have your plans ruined at the border.

As for the hound... an up to date passport with all stamps does the job.

Good Luck.
