UK tax payers-children born 2001-03

To all UK tax payers with children born between April 2001-April 2003 take a look below:-

Read the following to see if you are eligible:- I've rung HMRC and I haven't received it so I'm putting my claim in

The year before Tax Credits were introduced there was a different non-means tested allowance available, which was never advertised by the Inland Revenue.

It is called the Children’s Tax Allowance for the Year 2002/3.

You can still claim this tax allowance before the 31 January 2009 deadline.

You need to phone HMRC on 0845 302 1432 and ask them to check whether you have already received this allowance and, if not, enquire as to what action you need to take.

You are eligible to claim £520.00 if;

- You have a child born between 6 April 2001 and 5 April 2003
- The child lived with you for all or part of 2002/2003
- You worked and paid tax for all or part of 2002/2003
- You or your partner earned £6,000 plus in the year 2002/2003 tax year

You are eligible for the £1,040.00 allowance if:

- If you can answer yes to the four questions above, and
- One of your children was born between 6 April 2002 and 5 April 2003

- Making a claim does not affect your current or future entitlement to Working or Child Tax credits.
- Your marital status is irrelevant.
- You cannot claim the allowance twice and if your final tax code on your April 2003 P60 ended in a H or a T, you have already had the allowance.
- This is an easy claim for you to make so do not get duped into paying someone to do it for you because they are likely to charge a large percentage for their services.

REMEMBER THE DEADLINE TO CLAIM THIS IS 31ST JANUARY 2009!

Re: UK tax payers-children born 2001-03

I'm not sure that you are right with the dates that children have to be born between I think that you can claim for much older children. Also when I checked mine and my husband's P60's for the year in question he was already on a h or t code so must have already had the allowance, I think most people on PAYE would have received it but if you are not sure it won't hurt to ring. If the government department in question says that it will send out necessary forms make sure they do and if not chase them up as as you say there is a very short time frame to register our claim.

Re: UK tax payers-children born 2001-03

I would advise anyone applying for this allowance to send the forms back by recorded delivery and taking a printout of when it was delivered to the government office in question just in case it is late claimed that they didn't receive your claim either on time or not at all.

Yes you are right, it applies to children born from 1986, my mistake.
If you ring HMRC they can confirm from your NI number if you or husband had the tax allowance. In my case I haven't so I can claim, I have sent my form 1st class recorded and also I will ring them next week to confirm it is being actioned. You can download the form off the website to save time as it will take ages for them to post to you.
I hope this info has been useful to people, it's not very often working people can actually receive any benefits!

If you send something recorded delivery you can track the item on the royal mail website and then take a print to show that it has been delivered.

Re: UK tax payers-children born 2001-03

Please be very careful
There is currently a very sophisticated "phishing scam" going on.
HMRC are advising people to contact their local tax office direct and not to give their Bank or credit card details over the telephone or by e-mail as they only ever contact people who are due arrears or refund by writing.
If you receive an e-mail appearing to originate from HMRC, you should forward it unopened to [email protected]. Do not click on the web links or open ant attachments.

Just to update people on this - the deadline was 31st Jan so I hope those interested got their claim time. I received a chq for £601 yesterday for my tax refund! The first time I have ever got anything back from the Government!
