good spec laptop

Hi all
Having been in the market for a new laptop lately ,ive been reading all the rubbish that we normally sling, found some thing today that was an amazing deal, Toshiba laptop, 4G, 500ram, 2.10 intel dual core processor, with free printer, with free mcfee security (1 yr not trial), and if you trade in your old laptop (upto 4 yr old) 50 quid discount on £299, so for me that £250.
One slight snag, out of stock, but you can reserve.
seriously if you dont know about the spec thats a very good deal without the £50 quid discount,
ps in the spec the fact it has a web cam is missing but look in FAQs it does, and the bit about free printer is in the spread that came in todays SUN.
GOOD LUCK MARTIN.

Sorry Martin but I thought ‘ive been reading all the rubbish that you normally sling’ sounded a a bit sarcastic maybe I’m wrong, didn’t mean to offend. Now you have filled in all the details it is more helpful.

Re: good spec laptop

Buy Toshiba Satellite C660-195 500GB 15.6 Inch Laptop at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Laptops.

If that is the same one it certainly looks a fair deal at £299, (was £449.99) although for only a £50 saving I would not be parting with my old laptop.
(Anyone would probably give you more than that)

But you may want consider the free printer.
Most of these free printers tend to be the lower end of the market printers which use expensive small ink cartridges which is where printer manufactures make their money on printers (on the ink not the printer)

If you do decide to buy that one or any other for that matter, please make sure you run either the backup utility or run your own "IMAGE" backup as soon as you get one, because most new units do not now come with the Windows disc's. Although it may be on a hidden partition, that's no good if you can't get into it.

EDIT
No mention if it's wireless so you might either want to check that or add another £50 - £60 for a wireless adaptor.

Hi pete
You were right,i had put "you" instead of "i"or "we", which sounded like i was being snobby, fair play.

I'm just wondering if the two are the same. In the original op. Martin mentions a "dual core processor", however oldfogy's link to an Argos laptop of similar spec only houses a celeron processor (which is the base level processor). A dual core processor in theory would work faster as it has 2 systems processing.

If it's an Intel Dual Core processor, then its not a bad deal, but there are many cheap deals with Intel Celeron processors, that said if its enough for you, you can go for any Celeron deal.

If it's an Intel Dual Core processor, then its not a bad deal,

CPU and Memory:
  • Intel Celeron dual core T3500 processor.
  • 2.1GHz processor speed.
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM memory.
  • 500GB SATA hard drive.

This is where I am getting confused by the Argos spec.

I am only familar with Intel's spec. of processors and had not come across the use of the word Celeron and dual core together.

Martin's op states it's a 2.10 intel dual core processor (no mention of celeron)

This is the official description from Intel of all the processors they make

ARK | Your source for information on Intel® products

So, what I was trying to establish is in the op and the argos link you posted which of Intel's processors actually is it?

I have found which processor it is from Intel's site it is the Intel® Celeron® Processor T3500 (1M Cache, 2.10 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

Intel® Celeron® Processor T3500 (1M Cache, 2.10 GHz, 800 MHz FSB))
however, its not referred to as dual core officially and listed under Celeron processor not core or duo Core processors that are often higher spec'd.

To get the higher spec. processors that are not Celeron you need to paying upwards of £300, taking Argos for example in the Toshiba range this is the next one up:
Buy Toshiba C660-17J 15.6 Inch 500GB 2.3GHz Laptop at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Laptops.

Sometimes I find many of the shops descriptions misleading or confusing and like to know which product I am actually getting as there are so many types of Intel processors and often resort to manufacturer's official sites to get the full breakdown spec. of what they are actually selling.

I find the use of the word dual core in the advertising a tad misleading and confusing and Argos descriptions are very misleading in the Celeron processors, if they are higher end processors they (i.e. Argos) just call them pentium, thought that was a bit out dated, wish they'd stick to official manufacturer descriptions.

Well now I know which of Intel's processors this is the whole package price is competitive but not quite the processor I thought it was.

Last edited by newhorizon; 26th August 2011 at 08:13.. Reason: added Argos link example showing higher spec Intel pentium (non Celeron)
