These sound brilliant, we are driving to Turkey and could take one of these but do you think we would have problems with customs.

Hi CarolandRob.It's more than likely that you may have a problem with TK. Customs. They do seem to pick on Electrical Goods but I am sure someone on here will tell you that they came through without any problem.Good Luck.

I wouldn't bother Carol, these satellite receivers are only free to air (FTA), and they don't have a slot for a conditional access module (CAM). So if you want to upgrade to digiturk for example you can't. All you are able to watch are the FTA channels that are not encrypted. Here's a list for Turksat at
42°E http://www.lyngsat.com/turk42.html and hotbird at 13°E http://www.lyngsat.com/hotbird.html. The available channels are highlighted in yellow. You can watch BBC world and a few music channels but no real entertainment I'm afraid

Hi,
Also check with the airline carriers. I was going to by one but XL said no way to carriage in the hold due to interference with the aircraft. Even asked if i could bring the receiver without the dish and they said due to the recent events there is no way.
So anyone wanting to buy one then please check first regarding carriage.
Regards

God preserve us from fools!!! So these inert, unplugges pieces of steel are going to somehow either bring the plane down by supernatural means or on a pre-determined signal from a SMERSH sattelite they are going to come alive as some sort of bogey man terrorist plot and blow the plane out of the sky.

This is a perfect example of the ill educated, hysterical crap that is being spouted by ignorant £5 an hour jobsworths. You pay peanuts you get monkeys...

It is not the fault of the airlines, they are just protecting the safety of their passengers!
I for one feel much safer flying with all these extra security measures in place. If it wasn't for all these radical extremists who are prepared to blow themselves up and all other passengers and crew in the name of allah it wouldn't have been a problem!!
Yes they probably are over reacting at times but is it any wonder!

Anyway if you want a satellite system in Turkey you can get one installed by a good local dealer for around £200 with two dishes and you can subscribe to digiturk as well
