Izmir Shopping and Ikea
Just a quick post regarding Ikea and the shopping centre at Bornova in Izmir.
We have just returned having had a lovely sunny day out shopping, also went to Koctas (B&Q) which isnt far away, the trip up was traffic free unlike the uk and the scenery lovely.
There are plenty of top brand shops, starbucks if you like your american style coffee, there is a large Kippa (Tesco) store with more bargains, steam iron 20YTL and ironing board the same.
Dont be put off by the drive its very straight forward and stress free, the toll road from Aydin to Izmir(100km) is a mere 2.25YTL and good motorway tarmac too!!
If you buy anything large from Ikea its the same as the UK,pay for it and take it to the delivery men, there costs are reasonable and they usually deliver within a couple of days.
If anyone needs any questions answered that i might be able to answer then just ask
Regards
Paul

Re: Izmir Shopping and Ikea
Cheers Paul,
You and another previous post have filled me with enough confidence to try the drive on my own with the girls in August.
I like the cooking "bits" are they as full a range as in the UK?

Hi Matty, when you are getting into the Izmir area you follow the signs for Bornova, very easy possibly 2 minor intersections over about 5 km then you cant miss t,the huge Ikea sign looms at you.
PDM the koctas is a little tricky as you go on the other side of the motorway from Ikea and go through the Sania industrial estate, not far but i could possibly give you easier directions another way.

Re: Izmir Shopping and Ikea
no the prices are the same, just depends upon the exchange rate you achieve. you can view and order online a member of staff emails me regularly but only direct questions are answered in English and my Turkish is way off that level of ability!!!!

Re: Izmir Shopping and Ikea
The prices do vary but we found that somethings are more expensive but some arent, the main thing is that you either like Ikea or you dont, some of their products can be a bit naff but overall they arent that bad,we tend to like the fact that they may have things that you have at home but cant bring in your luggage,or some practical things you might not be able to find elsewhere.
Their website is www.ikea.com.tr it also has a button to press to change to english and the usual online catalogue, most items are exactly the same name regardless of language anyway.

Re: Izmir Shopping and Ikea
Getting a little jealous here, Paul! I would love to go to the Ikea again, yes I agree it's a lovely day out!!! But the 3hour drive from Bodrum, lots of work and 2 small kids are keeping me from going any time soon...
Am very surprised to read that Ikea Izmir would be more expensive than Ikea in the UK! Compared to Belgian prices, Ikea Izmir is almost twice as cheap!! Prices can be easily compared on the internet though: just look at ikea.com.tr and you can view the whole Turkish catalogue online.
