Dalaman News in 'Place in the Sun' magazine
News Article Reads
'Turkey's south-west region has received a huge boost with the news that Easy-Jet will fly four times a week to Dalaman airport, starting March 2008. Further good news for the area is that a new golf course is due for completion at the end of this year, and 70,000 new hotel beds have been created under ambitious government led development plans to develop the region as a mainstay of tourism in the country'.

Re: Dalaman News in 'Place in the Sun' magazine
I will believe the four times a week flights, when members start commenting how available they are and A Place in the Sun is there to balance the "American banks doom"
is that the same golf course promised four years ago!
love it

Re: Dalaman News in 'Place in the Sun' magazine
Personally we prefered Dalaman 7 years ago when we first visited the area, and then decided it was right for us as it was not a tourist area.
Mainly a farming community with only a handfull of us Brits.
Yes it is nice to have more choice of shops, but prices have risen dramatically due to the high rentals on these new premises.
Well as for the golf course being finished this year !lol, or the marina by 2010!!!!!
And also the proposed dog shelter being open by april this year!

Re: Dalaman News in 'Place in the Sun' magazine
Thats why we chose a quiet out of the way location in the hills of Dalaman so that the Sarigerme project would not affect us. I like Dalaman town just the way it is, with just about being able to get our shopping and house hold goods in a calm enviroment. if I want hustle and bustle I go to Izmir etc.

Re: Dalaman News in 'Place in the Sun' magazine
I do agree with you all, but as a wise woman once pointed out What we want may not be what the Turkish people in Dalaman want , but I do really hope it stays a business town and not for tourism. I feel as assured as I can that its geography its huge police presence and the airport no less validates its value, within Turkey. These things reassure me anyway.

Re: Dalaman News in 'Place in the Sun' magazine
The golf course although is supposed to be finished this year is unlikely to be completed this year, the builders only have until the start of the season to complete the work.
The hotel was approx 70% finished last year before work had to cease for the season, they were supposed to complete the hotel before work would start on the course itself so it will be early 2009 before this will be done.
My information comes from the family who own the pegasus hotel which is next to the golf hotel,i was done there a while ago and the course has not been started.

Re: Dalaman News in 'Place in the Sun' magazine
We went down to have a look at the golf hotel/course a few weeks ago and
there wasn't a lot of activity. We asked the security bloke when we'd be able to get a game and he said maybe 2010.
As far as we know Dalaman will never be a tourist town but maybe a service town for all the tourist areas at Sarigerme. Dalaman has changed a lot over the last 3 years but it is still a pleasant place and there is always a 'buzz' about it all year round. Plenty of new restaurants opening but no new bars and we think the mayor is against tourism here anyway. Let's hope so.

Re: Dalaman News in 'Place in the Sun' magazine
According to the building manager running the Golf Complex construction, the course will be 100% complete and open on the 1st May 2009. He also stated that within this time they have budgeted for approximately 2 months overrun so fingers crossed should be open a little sooner. It was also mentioned that the company who are financially backing the construction are looking to bring their total investment in the area to $120m including another golf development in the same area, yet how much truth is in this I honestly don't know.
