Where to go in Turkey

Was thinking of Olu Deniz but gather it is slightly more expensive, Fethiye sounds good but no beach. Can anyone recommend somewhere, this is what we are after:

Nice Beach
Tavernas/Bars (typical Turkish, don't need hundreds just a handful)
Somewhere with a bus service to get to different resorts
Some history, ruins or something to look at
Not interested in nightlife

We have been to the following places end May, beginning June (quieter time) and really like them: Santa Ponsa in Majorca, Albena in Bulgaria, Tsilivi in Zante.

We are looking for next June 2007.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, Are you only interested in Dalaman because from your description Gumusluk sounds like it would fit.

Kusadasi, Silver Sand Beach area. Easy access to historic sites, (Selcuk, Ephesus and National Park), easy access to other resorts (Ladies Beach, Long Beach, Davutlar, Ozdere) easy access to markets, (Soke, Selcuk, Kusadasi, Davutlar)...plus easy access to restaurants, beautiful sandy beaches and shops.

How about Kalkan? I found this town really nice and it had a typical Turkish feel and was very laid back. Not too built up and not spoilt. Has a lovely harbour and you can catch Dolmus buses from town centre. Patara is about 20 mins away is worth visiting( ruins along road upto a stunning beach). Also Kas. I visited 2-3 different ruins, temples while staying here. Plenty to see and do here. Dalyan Delta was a great day out too. A cruise along the river( where African Queen was filmed) and you will see tombs carved into the cliffs . You then have a bbq lunch and then end up on a stunning beach. Tlos ruins were also worth visiting. You can also visit the Ghost Town of Kaya( think that is what it is called) . Fields of poppies and stunning views. Much more to do, this is just a taster.

Dalyan would fit that description nicely!
The caunos ruins are wonderful as are the
rock tombs, nice small town not to lively
short boat trip down to the beautiful beach,
boat trip up the river to koycegiz across the lake
mud baths plenty of good restaurants.

Datca also fits. Lots of blue flag beaches. A harbour with good value restaurants, you can still get 2 courses and a drink for a fiver. 3 tame discos, no english food, an amphitheatre with occaisional Turkish entertainment aimed at the Turkish market. Knidos at the end of the peninsula - by road or boat, also ancient Knidos near town. Bodrum is 2 hours away by ferry, Symi 1.5 hours by boat, Marmaris 1.5 hours by bus. Umpteen little villages and coves by dolmus or boat. Thermal pool. Mountain walks. Masses of protected land with rare plants and wildlife. Very few european tourists, lots of Turkish families. No mainsteam UK tour companies (just a couple of the smaller ones). Olive farm to visit, windsurf club to sail at, diving boat, fantastic Saturday market. One of the top 3 places in the world for air and water quality, constant cooling breeze.
Hope you have a great time where ever you go.
