Just Back From Dalaman
Hi all you Dalamaners-I've just reluctantly returned from Dalaman. I went out there to try and complete the furnishing etc. After going through the process in Northern Cyprus a couple of times I must say that it's all been a bit of a doddle really.
The builders, OnTur,have been great, so has the agent, Dalaman Estates. The electricity went off at 10.30pm and they came out with an electrician at 11pm (a crossed wire).
The house is finished very well-I have no complaints at all. While I was out there I met up with Jim and Marjo, who come onto this forum-they live in Romania but have bought a house in Dalaman, they are really nice people and fluent Turkish speakers-they helped me to find a really cheap car hire company in central Dalaman.
I found a great restaurant in the centre of Dalaman-the Begonvil, the food was great, the service was excellent and it was so cheap.
I really didn't want to come back, but as I'd left the husband back in the UK I needed to come home as the washing was piling up-he's an engineer but hasn't mastered the intricacies of a washing machine control panel yet!!
We've got to wait until September now before we get back out there. Roll on March '08 when we take early retirement and can spend months out there.
Thanks to all of you for your help and advice while this project was taking shape.
Cheers
Ann & Ray

Re: Just Back From Dalaman
Hi Ann & Ray,
Glad you had a great time.
My son has just returned on saturday after a week at our place, and hopefully we are travelling out next week for 10 days or so.
I think I know the car hire place you mean as I have used them the last 3 times we have been out there (great service and good prices, as well as a free lift to the airport)
Not been to the Begonvil, and I cannot really think where it is, maybe you can enlighten me?
Regards

Re: Just Back From Dalaman
Hi There
To get to the Begonvil you would walk past the Belediye car park (on your left), carry on past the entrance to the kids park then past the 'Kamil Koc' coach stop, turn left and it's just there-it's opposite the 'Kelebek' furniture shop. It's a really big restaurant, we had the chocolate souffle-I've never had any to beat it. I found it by accident just wandering about. The chaps in there speak English and were really very pleasant and helpful. You get a genuine 'after eight' mint with your nescafe, which only costs 1YTL.
The car hire place is called 'Metro'-50YTL per day for a Fiat Albea which includes insurance.
Did you know that Ley-Ley restaurant will pick you up from Dalaman and take you home? We shall try that out the next time.

Re: Just Back From Dalaman
There seems to be a queue a people wanting to pick me up or drop me off at the airport!
We will try the Begonvil when we go out, I am sure I can find it from your instructions.
It was a little more expensive for car hire because we used a people carrier last time we were out, but still very good value.

Re: Begonvil
We also ate in the Begonvil twice in June and found it to be excellent. It is part owned by the former owner of the open air restaurant which was on the main street - the site is being redeveloped as apartments/shops. Great that the selection of restaurants is starting to grow albeit slowly. Also use Metro hire cars and can recommend them. Ercan speaks good English - he is the brother of the guy who runs Metro Emlak builders.
