break in in apartment

hello all, I wonder if anyone can help, please?

we have discovered that our apartment has had the locks changed and is using it for storage.

clearly we want to rectify this matter asap. but there are a number of variables.

we would be very grateful indeed for advice.

this is a flat that was advertised for sale once by a certain well known estate agents in dalaman with no instruction or even contact from us.

beyond belief in both cases.

many thanks in advance

Re: break in in apartment

If you have the title deed I would go to the police and see if they will come with you while you break in, then change the locks again. Get the new locks and tools before you go.

Re: break in in apartment

My first port of call would be to the council for a latest copy of the Tapu. Properties have been known to change hands without the owners knowledge for a variety of reasons, the most obvious being dodgy POA's and recovery of debts through the courts.

Re: break in in apartment

hello,

once again, thanks to anyone who took an interest in our predicament regarding the break-in to our apartment. and the storing of items therein.

therefore I fell it incumbent on me to update you, not that you will be lying awake at night thinking about it, obviously.

my partner went out there, having re-booked with Turkish airlines because Thomas Cook went bust two days before she was due to leave, and the issue had been that we hadn't paid service charges for a couple of years. this is simply because, despite requests, we hadn't been given bank details as to whom to pay.

therefore, the [English] person got the hump, and decided to use it as a storage/pet space. they hadn't changed the locks; in fact, the same estate agent, not unknown to people on this forum, who had put the apartment up for sale without our knowledge or instruction, had given this character the key without our permission. the estate agent have our email address, so all they had to do was to email us and the matter could have been cleared up in 20 minutes.

so at least I know one estate agent I wouldn't touch with a bargepole. now I need to find a decent one!

all advice welcome and kind regards

If someone has lost an email address then why not send a PM through TLF if both are members?

Re: break in in apartment

Just to be clear do you mean an estate agent to sell your property or somebody to manage it on your behalf?

Re: break in in apartment

Hard to sort of grasp the whole of the story but one thing I would say to everyone...…..never leave your keys with an estate agent. I wouldn't even to that here in the UK, never mind Turkey.
Can we take it as a given that you're the named Tapu holder? If that be the case & you owe fees, pay them and that should be end of...…….then if I were you, I would change the locks.
