Re: Residency permit

Hi Barry

From a friends recent experience you would need a 6 month residency permit to purchase the bike and the same again based on current laws to sell.

Quickist way to get your RP once you have completed the local paperwork is to take a day trip up to Mugla and you and get it all sorted in 1 day. Ideal to take someone along who speaks Turkish and who knows the process. We paid a friend 50 TL to help us out for the day.

Good luck
Martin

Re: Residency permit

£40 for the first month, £30 each subsequent month plus the cost of the blue book (about 180 lira), proof of income, tapu or rental contract at least 3 passport photo's passport and some other bits and pieces, Mehmet the policeman in Ortaca will tell you exactly what you need and will help you through the process but going to Mugla has to be under life or death circumstances only.

Re: Residency permit

As Steve says, Mehmet at Ortaca Yabanci Polis Buro is brilliant. (Thats 1st floor Ortaca polis station, left hand side going out of Ortaca towards Dalaman)

The latest" bits and pieces" you will need for your first RP (and these vary in different areas of Turkey but are the ones you need for this area):
6 passport photos (only 3 for a renewal)
3 photocopies of your yabanci kimlik number
2 photocopies of your bank statement or proof of income
2 photocopies of your tapu or rental agreement
The original Nufus Mudurlu proof of residence from the Nufus Office in Ortaca (commonly referred to as the Tax Office which is the new building on the right past the police station where the new dual carriageway starts) which is in Room 5, ground floor.

You will hear many people in different areas of Turkey tell you that you dont need all those where they live. Thats true. But in Ortaca/Mugla you do need them.
The above list is issued by Mehmet at Ortaca Polis.

Re: Residency permit

Mehmet speaks pretty basic English so you may be better with a Turkish friend on the first visit.

By the way, you can forget the Yabanci kimlik number as you dont get that till you have your 1st RP! The YKN is the number you are asked for when you buy your scooter/car etc (its an 11 digit number) and you can only get it once you have your RP.

When you do get your RP you can then go onto the following website and get your YKN. (Dont confuse that with your tax number which is your Vergi Kimlik number!)

T.C. Nüfus ve Vatanda?l?k ??leri Genel Müdürlü?ü Kimlik Numaras? Sorgulama Sayfas?

Re: Residency permit

Hi Barry

I know people have different experiences, but the trip to Mugla to do the RP is so easy, no hassle and at least you get it all done in 1 day and you keep hold of your passport.

We went with friends as a group and did ours and then we took another couple up to do theirs. Much easier than waiting a few weeks for it all to come back.

Cheers
Martin
