Re: safe deposit boxes

I am assuming you are asking about the IsBank in Dalyan - I am not a customer but the AKBank in Ortaca certainly has and you rent one for a year for a fee, so am hopeful the IsBank may offer you the same service. However, not terribly convenient if you want something out of hours or particularly at weekends...... why not consider using a pre-paid currency card to keep your money safe? Thumbs up Re: safe deposit boxes

These pre-paid currency cards will give you a lower rate of exchange than you would get in Turkey. Depending on your bank - Fortunately I am with HSBC - I use my normal card and draw English pounds out in the cash machine just outside the Ortega Dolmus Station and there is a jeweller in Ortega who gives the highest rate of exchange anyone has found tween Dalyan and Ortega. Hence no commission charges on the sterling withdrawal and no commission is charged by the jeweller. On the daily official exchange rate he gives 1 kurush less per pound. Worth thinking about. Good luck. Have a good holiday when you do get here.

Re: safe deposit boxes

Hi why not just open a bank account..can have sterling and Turkish lira... We have a ATM cash machine here in Dalyan that gives sterling too ...outside the school... rate yesterday here in Dalyan was 2.56 at the exchange office, which is very good for this time of year.. My advice oto you is DONT leave your money or passports in the apartment at all...Carry them with you x

Re: safe deposit boxes

We have a bank account with IsBank in Dalyan and before we go to Dalyan we just transfer money from our Halifax account online - it costs about 8 each time, but once done, we just use our IsBank card to withdraw money whilst in Turkey.

We were also given an IKey which allows us access to the IsBank Stirling and Lira Accounts via Internet whilst in UK. The online Interface is next to useless but at least we can see the balance etc.

If you plan to get an iKey go to the bank very early in your holiday as it takes about 8 to 10 days for it to arrive at the bank from their head office.

Hope this helps

Re: safe deposit boxes

Tonycasino Open an a/c with Isbank Ive been with them 8 years & they are brilliant dont need a lot of cash BUT it will grow surprisingly fast!! To get a Safety Deposit box is 50 tlys a year .. Also you can put your money in a Sterling a/c you wont get interest but they DONT charge me at all for that service... 32 day a/c is the best options to get best interest rate unless of course you plan a long term highish end a/c deal!!! Good luck
Duke

PS Before I get upteem critics this is in MY opinion only!!!

Re: safe deposit boxes

A bit late in the day (very late in fact)

But with regards to the OP request, is/was this just for a holiday period, ie, just a couple or few weeks or more on a long term basis?

One thought around the problem could be to contact one of the local hotels and see if they will let you rent one of theirs, although the going rate seems to be around 10 per week.

Maybe the owners of rented accommodations could make some arrangements with local hotels.
