Re: Driving back to UK

Er don't if my experience is anything to go by!!!! Did you buy your car from a Turkish dealer? If so and if you are determined to go ahead then make sure you take ALL the paperwork with you from the sale i.e. the notary stuff as well as the dealer's receipt. The clowns at the Ipsala border crossing in Thrace on the Greek border just assumed that I had personally imported the car and not purchased from a Turkish dealer with all the Turkish taxes paid. In other words if it was a personal import then the vehicle has to go to the customs compound at your port of departure if you are leaving the country by e.g. air. When I tried to leave the country last year (yes it was April Fools' day) they stopped me at Dalaman and I missed my flight and I spent the rest of the day trying to prove to them that I didn't need to impound the car as the car was bought from a local dealer (new). Needless to say when they realised their mistake there was not a word of apology and I was a few hundred pounds lighter, what with re-booking the flight and train etc. If you care to find it there is a long rant about this from me dated April last year on the forum somewhere. Good luck!!

Re: Driving back to UK

Drove back in Jan this year, Greece, Italy, France etc. Done it in a Turkish car, all I had to produce was the book for the car, passport & green card. No problem anywhere including Ipsala. One night on the ferry up to Anconna Italy, one night in a hotel the other side of Milan. Hit Derby UK, three days after leaving Akbuk. Miles after miles of motorway.

Thanks richbake. Am I understanding this right. Your passport was stamped on your return to Turkey showing that you were bringing in a car, albeit that you had previously left the country in said car, and when you later tried to fly out of Dalaman they wanted to know were the car was?

Yes my passport was indeed stamped! That was the problem. Anyway Spurs seems to have had no problem since my trip so maybe I was just unlucky. Always have been a magnet for idiot jobsworths.....
