Good Veggie meals in Dalyan.

Hi. I've just returned from Dalyan and was wondering if I could ask, fellow vegetarians, where the good vegetarian meals are to be found. My wife and I had a real mixed bag of veggie meals but did not have time to go around all the restaurants and probably missed some great meals. Probably the Patio was the best of the big type restaurants. Probably the most disappointing were The Wishing Well or the Aubergine. The best value are probably the Gozalme places and Pide places.

We love Dalyan and intend to go back as soon as we can so any advice would be welcome.

Stuart

Can certainly second the recommendation for Saki. Their food is fantastic, unbelievable selection of vegetarian dishes. A few meat dishes available, but their veggie mezes are the focus and the stars! There is no menu, as choices change daily based on what looks best in the market- you just make your selection from the display case, and every item will be explained to you.

It's (Saki) on the river bank at the far end of where the trip boats moor, next to the park. Relaxed atmosphere, family service and just downright pleasant. On of a very few without the pushy "eat here" touts outside.

Re: Good Veggie meals in Dalyan.

We did see Pasha and intended going in for a mid-day meal but didn't get round to it. It didn't seem to be a night time place somehow or am I wrong?

Just as a matter of interest do many vegetarians go to Dalyan? Also I think that it would be useful to use this thread to keep people up to date about eating out as I often get advice from non-vegetarians and usually find that their eating experience is of no use to me at all.

One must visit place is Cafe Yummy.

Re: Good Veggie meals in Dalyan.

Pasha's is open day and night time although he doesnt have the usual waiters outside trying to pull you in (thankfully). The owner markets the place as "Turkish food at Turkish prices" and it is still possible to eat there in the centre of town overlooking the river for only 5TL for a plate of kuru fasulye or nohut plus a generous helping of rice. He also has another lokanta in Ortaca down the right hand side of the police station.

Saki's has always had a good trade by the riverside. The family moved there a few years ago from their original location on the side street opposite the dolmus station (opposite Cagri's) when their popularity outgrew the small size of the premises.

Re: Good Veggie meals in Dalyan.

Dalyan offers lots of choice for vegetarians. Pasha's on Gulpinar Cad is open for lunch and dinner but I would recommend early dining as some have said if you go after 9pm the choice is limited as it is a canteen style service and if they kept replenishing the dishes after a certain time they would probable have wastage. They do not serve alcoholic beverages but the food is tasty and very cheap. A little further up, walking out of town there is another little Turkish style place called Hanimeli, again lots of small meze dishes on offer and favourites like manti (ravioli like dish) also very cheap.

Re: Good Veggie meals in Dalyan.

I'm a vegetarian and have always been impressed with the food on offer in Turkey - I know lots of other veggie's who regularly visit Dalyan too

Some of my favourite haunts have already been mentioned (saki, bistro clou) and we also love Ali babas, and Ramazan han (their veggie curry is delicious!). Sorry to hear you were disappointed with Aubergine and Wishing well as we've enjoyed meals at both those places.

Also Ekin, on the beach road, do a great turkish breakfast (completely vegetarian) and Cafe Iz is almost fully vegetarian except for a few tuna items on the menu (this is more a lunch place).

Places like Pasha are great for veggies...cagri and eylul are similar...and you can't beat a pide!

Re: Good Veggie meals in Dalyan.

Thanks for the replies folks, you're giving us lots of new places to try. Can't wait to get back out and try some. Keep them coming.

I really think vegetarians need to share info, good or bad because there's only so many places you can go to in a short holiday and I'd rather go to recommended places.
So thanks again.
