Building on Iztuzu beach!!

There is a meeting on Saturday, 5TH OCTOBER at 10.00am about the proposed plans for building on the beach. Evidently there are plans that have already been submitted to Mugla regarding the building work.

If you feel strongly that this could be the thin end of the wedge and that any approval now will open the gates for hotels etc on the beach then please come to the meeting, and tell your friends, so that we may find out exactly what is proposed and ask questions.

The venue is the new ' Dalyan Centre of Arts' next door to the Yesil Dalyan Firen (Bakery), opposite the Ozalp complex. There have not, nor will be, any announcements about this, and so we need to spread the word ouselves and rally the troops, as it were!

Re: Building on Iztuzu beach!!

Hope you manage to organise a large opposition group, this certainly needs stopping.
Your concerns and plea for support has also been raised on trip advisor forum.

Re: Building on Iztuzu beach!!

Hi
Does anyone have any factual information re proposed building project. So far the only thing I haven't heard suggested is London's third airport so any fact based info would be appreciated

Re: Building on Iztuzu beach!!

This just makes me feel sick. Isnt Iztusu a SIT area? (protected natural area)
Wasn't it about 25/30 years ago that Captain June was instrumental in stopping a big German hotel complex being built there?......and helped Iztusu to become a SIT area? What does she think about that? ( I hear she recently celebrated her 90th birthday in Dalyan!) Now whats happened? Oh wait....the current govt dont give a bleeep about SIT areas or nature and are hell bent on trying to bury this country under a heap of concrete. Anyone have any idea what the hotel company's name is? I wonder if it is any company with any kind of connection to the akp? Now RTE just recently announced he would return the coastlines to the people..and knock down a whole load of hotels in the Bodrum area.... Except the Rixos of course!...so whats this?....very, very sad news......and actually so typical.Everywhere is under threat.......they are going to build another HES (dam)in the mountains in a very beautiful mountain valley just inland from Kemer....people are protesting..but sadly a huge mountain gorge in Kemer doesnt have the people power of a tiny little park in Taksim....so.. probably...it will go ahead. The white water rafting centre of Köprülü canyon near Manavgat...they are also making a HES there...I was there rafting about 2 months ago and saw the destruction for myself.. I almost cried.
The beautiful untouched bays of Çiralı and Adrasan are constantly under threat of 'development'.....no the locals dont want development and recently were victorious in stopping development plans...but God knows how much longer they can hold out...
The black sea mountains have almost all been destroyed by these massive projects..........Çamlıhemşin..the Artvin/Şavşat areas....there have been no cost/ benefit analysis carried out..no environmental impact assessments .....
This news sickens me.
If I was able to I would be there at that meeting to support you.

Re: Building on Iztuzu beach!!

As I said in my original posting ( thank you V6Cod for posting it on the forum) this meeting is for everyone to find out exactly what is being proposed, so any conjecture at this stage is wasted energy! Of course none of us wants any building on the beach, but we just have to wait until we know the facts, and becoming agitated before the event is not helpful.
Hopefully we will go to this meeting calmly in order to listen to what is being proposed and not with all guns blazing! Once we know the facts we will be able to ask questions I hope.
Rest assured Janeanneteacake that we will post news of the contents of the meeting as soon as possible.

Thank you and fair enough...
but what should be proposed...is nothing.
Anything else needs to to opposed.

Re: Building on Iztuzu beach!!

Agree with you Dalyanfan.

Find out the facts first, rather than just explode beforehand.

Good luck with the meeting.

David Bellamy was heavily involved in saving the beach from development many years ago.

Re: Building on Iztuzu beach!!

Basically Professor Yacub, who heads up the turtle sanctuary at the beach now, presented his proposals for the new building, which is to be 20m x 19m x 7m high, to the meeting. It is to be pre-fabricated but in the shape and colour of a turtle (which I think smacks of 'funfair' personally, but just my opinion), housing the same size tanks for the turles which are injured (ie. small tanks) and storage etc. Also on the site will be accomodation as is now for visiting volunteers, and facilities for xrays etc.
It would appear that the majority of Turks present, and it was a superb turn-out, are totally against this being built on the beach, albeit nearly where the facility is now.
I felt that the meeting was fairly presented, in both Turkish and English, until the open Q and A session, which was mainly Turkish, as that was very difficult to translate.

Despite the objections from various obviously educated people the 'consultation' period is up today and this was not mentioned at the meeting itself, and it looks likely that it will go ahead. I had the feeling that there was a lot unsaid by Prof Yacub, but admittedly I left when all the shouting began, and perhaps someone who was there until the end of the meeting could fill in the gaps?
