Out of date!

It would be a good idea to look at the dates on goods in so called Pork Shop in Dalyan. I did not notice until too late that some things I bought were out of date. They can be used but best to be safe and check. Also prices appear to have gone up quite a bit, especially on baked beans. Has anyone else noticed this?

Re: Out of date!

Yes we noticed that some of the goods were out of date a couple of days after the shop opened. Also the 'frozen' bacon was half defrosted. We don't use the shop.

Re: Out of date!

Stopped using PorkShop in Alanya 2 years ago. They are well over priced even then.70 ytl for 4 pork chops, and they were dry as a bone, the sauasges were rank.As for Baked Beans,I buy the catering tin from Tespo or Metro 18ytl and they are great,I think they are called Dedora.Kipa,Megros and Metro are all selling Bacon and Ham now,25 ytl a pack.

Been there, done that, didn't want the T shirt. I buy because occasionally I like to just open a tin or packet and have a meal. I don't live where I can order meals to be delivered so it just makes a change. I cook when I want, buy when I want and generally live how I want. As I only have myself and cats to consider I can do that. If I could I would buy a ready meal now and again but the few on offer aren't to my liking. I do however bring take aways home sometimes and enjoy them. Each to his own eh?

I got a few tins of baked beans from the local pork shop last week. Opened one today and it was putrid. Opened another and it was half empty as if liquid had evaporated. Then noticed label with date on was a duplicate of the information on the side of the tin, not a Turkish translation of a foreign label. Peeled it off and found it was there to cover the original date stamp on the tin - use by Oct 2012.

Re: Out of date!

I remember watching a Baked Beans differential taste test on one of the UK TV programs that were comparing the likes of Aldi's Vs HP.

The scientific test showed that the HP beans used 'Tomato Purée' and had a pinch more pepper, then the Aldi brand which apparently use fresh tomatoes and had less pepper.

But it was mainly down to the extra pepper that really made the difference in taste, the difference between Tomato Purée and fresh Tomatoes was mainly down to how fluid/liquid the mixture was.

I don´t mind buying cheap beans because I usually drain off the sauce and mix either Heinz Tom Sauce back in with some Worcestershire Sauce, or just vinegar. But none of these fine products would mask the taste of rotting beans, I am sure.

Thinking about the purchase. I am a fairly regular customer and know the person serving well enough to chat to her about products. When I picked up the beans she told me that I would prefer the more expensive ones on the shelf and tried to put them back. No,no, I insisted, and returned the beans to the counter: now I understand!
