Satellite Internet

When I arrived in Dalyan 2 weeks ago I had no phone line or internet. The contract is not in my name so I asked the Turkish person who's name its in to ring. Anyway the same day I was up and running. One week later same again, no phone line or internet. The fault has been reported and 3 days have passed
and still no connection.
I have been told about a satellite internet service that costs around 40TL a month but I don't have any more details. Does anybody else?? after all, I don't really need a land line. Turkish mobile, Viber and Skype will take care of that!! so if this service turns out to be any good Turk Telecom can shove it.

Re: Satellite Internet

Watch out when going for these connections as a lot of the operators advertise up to a certain connection speed and that is their out clause for not supplying it/!

Re: Satellite Internet

I think it is Marmaris Internet and I was told you can get it from the Vodofone shop in Ortace, just round the corner from TTNet office. Mi was also told that if you are going away you can tell them and they switch you off and on again when you return and you don't pay for it until you are using it. Will be trying to find out more details myself, so if you find out first can you let me know please. It sounds good and they apparently come and fit it all for you and there is a start up charge, don't know how much. If it works better and it am told it does then it would be worth it.

Re: Satellite Internet

I use Sat Internet and it is good but expensive if you use it continuously. Mine is with Tooway, but there are others. Anything between 23.00 to 06.00 is not counted against your quota. To give you an idea, watching an afternoon of TV can use 2GB - my monthly allowance is 25GB on the package I am on.
It is more expensive than you have been told toowaySAT - Geni?bant Uydu ?nternet Eri?imi, Internet DSL, Voice over IP, IP-TV - this is a Turkish provider, of which there are a number, but priced very similar.

I use mine interchangeably with TTNet and just switch over to fit my needs.

Another system that is gaining momentum is line-of-site internet. This depends where you are (I think there is one in Dalaman) as you need to be able to see the transmitter, so donīt know if you will get it in Dalyan. There is a write-up on it here, I think.

Re: Satellite Internet

Immac, we also use tooway interchanging with TTNET, I am happy with the Tooway system but you have to watch your download times to avoid paying extra. We pay about 180TL per month, but there are no real alternatives here.

I was thinking of Hylas, about which I know nothing other than that it is out there.

Re: Satellite Internet

Thanks for all your info. I think because Turk Telecom have the monopoly and as yet no competition the service will always be poor. I'll start researching and see what I come up with. Anything I find out I'll put on this thread.

Stanner, if you are under contract with TT they will enforce the remainder of the contract cost.

Re: Satellite Internet

Thanks for the info. The TT service where I live is very slow so a satellite solution may be the way to go for a quicker connection.

Two people in Dalaman have had this installed a couple of weeks ago, they reckon speed is 8 ish. 250TL for kit and installation + 35TL per month.
