Poundland Bodrum?

In the last 3 weeks the bulldozers and concrete spreaders have been busy along the Kargi road.
Up on the hill behind Mandalya restaurant and beach a dirt track now leads up to huge concrete decks which are being covered with wooden cabins. There will be 10 and a cafe across a small space.
Cabins are tiny, with a sleeping deck inside and a small living/kitchen space plus shower room underneath. They are about 2 -3 metres apart. Not exactly private!
There is no canalisation or mains water supply. Already a 30,000 litre water tank has been damaged by efforts to move it with a JCB. Dirty water and sewage will have to be removed by Vidanjor tanker lorries.
Apparently no planning permission is needed for these sheds.
There doesn't appear to be much concern about the fire hazards of wooden sheds in a forestry/maquis scrub area prone to wildfires.
Yesterday a monster excavator started on a second major earthmoving exercise nearer to the road just above the Mandalya plaj entrance and has created a second 'platform' and access from the first dirt track and the road. Spare excavated earth has been dumped alongside the road and taped off.
There may be more sheds built there, who knows?
These cheap and basic wooden sheds are spreading everywhere across the peninsula and if there really is no planning permission needed and no consideration of fire security, it can only be a matter of time before there's a tragedy.
Welcome to poundland Bodrum.

Re: Poundland Bodrum?

Yes, drove past yesterday, and dumping the soil and rubbish near the former panorama restaurant.
There are good things happening with the road but also lots of development.
There has been many changes in the 12 years we have visited Datca.

Re: Poundland Bodrum?

There are some in Dalyan, I actually thought they were being built to be transferred elsewhere as they are so close together.
I can't imagine who would want to stay there.

The council is encouraging dumping there by the barracks as it's useful landfill for the quarry. I'd bet someone will build on it eventually!
I'm talking about the road past Mandalya restaurant down to Kargi beach.
We've been for a swim today and the road is now half covered with rubble and earth. A guy came off his motor bike on the loose soil, and the road is now single track and taped off with a bit of plastic red and white ribbon. The excavator is still hard at work dumping spoil over the side of the bank above the road.
Mandalya restaurant doesn't look like opening this year. All the signs have been taken down and the arch over the entrance removed.
They have built a permanent kitchen above the beach and doubled the framework for shade both on the beach and by the kitchen.
