Markets

I hate big markets because I usually end up buying rubbish that doesn't fit and always meet someone who bought better stuff in the same market for half the price. They say that the Wednesday market in Kusadasi is the best market around, but it is just too big, too hot and too crowded for me, and the Davutlar and Guzelcamli markets seem to be cutdown versions of what's in Kusadasi.

I found an alternative in Guzelcamli that suits me down to the ground. There are stalls down near the beach in Guzelcamli that are open until late at night every night during the summer. There's a great holiday atmosphere with lots of Turkish families strolling around bargain hunting. And there are bargains to be had....... On my last visit i noticed a crowd of Turks around a stall and when I went to have a look found that they were selling sandals for 10 ytl. They even had sandals in my size 7 which is a rarity in Turkey - white, mules.....Dior printed in big letters on the insole impressed someone here until I explained that it means Ali Dior. Got loads of other bits and pieces, too. When you see Turks from Izmir and Istanbul wading in to buy stuff you know there is value for money.

Check it out, folks, it's worth a look.

Re: Markets

Haven't a clue when it starts, Debbie. Just know that it's seasonal and finishes around mid September. Maybe Alison or Kevkj might know more about it.

A great market to visit is the one by paradise beach. The stall holders don't hassle you like the wednesday market. Also the stuff is modern much better than the one along the Migros rd.I know what you mean about the sizes Maria i would love to be a size 8 the stuff is gorgeous.

Re: Markets

Debbie: I take my hat off to you for tackling the Wednesday market with a pram....half an hour on my tod turns me into an ambulance case. The main reason I liked the one at Guzelcamli beach is that I can go there at night. Must warn you to go heavy on the Deet beforehand because the mossies come out in force.

G&T: I'm nearly ashamed to say that I have never been to paradise beach. What's it like? Is the market open at night? What's the quickest way to get there?

In fact, I don't go to Guzelcamli beach in the daytime, either. Had a look at the Google Earth link that Thurstan posted on the Cagkent thread and it looks like our local beach is either Sultan or Solari beach (didn't know it had a name). When we want to go to a beach with sunbeds we usually go to Diamond Sands because the lad with the sundbeds helps me push the wheelchair over the sand and finds me a good spot close to the sea.

I think the beaches run in this order. From the milli park end Love beach ,paradise ,silversands and then Diamond. The dolmus runs to paradise beach and the market stop is just before. It opens all day and is open at night.

Hi Linda,

The Perimarket means nothing to me or the mesin Hotel.I know we pass a mosque quite near it and a cheapy supermarket.

I think it is the same one g&t, just finding our way around ourselves, we always get lost, but find some great places whilst doing so.
